A fracture can sometimes be the first visible sign of osteoporosis, a condition that quietly weakens bones long before symptoms appear.

Yet for nearly one in three patients, bone health is not assessed after a fracture, delaying diagnosis and limiting timely intervention for osteoporosis. Women face nearly twice the risk, making early awareness critical to preserving mobility, independence, and long-term wellbeing.

Addressing osteoporosis calls for a shift in care, one that recognizes the underlying cause and improves the impact of intervention through earlier diagnosis, more connected care pathways, and stronger awareness so that more patients are identified and treated in time.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Executive Chairperson, Biocon, is among the women featured in Her Place Women's Museum’s ‘Finding Her’ - an Australian initiative that documents women whose contributions are commemorated through places, streets and landmarks in Australia.

What makes this initiative distinctive is its use of geographical tagging to map these recognitions, creating a digital archive that connects stories, spaces and history in a powerful, accessible way.

The feature highlights Mazumdar-Shaw Drive at Federation University Australia's Mt. Helen campus in Victoria, Australia, unveiled in2015, a lasting tribute that reflects her global impact beyond industry, shaped by purpose-driven science and a commitment to advancing affordable innovation in global health.

By documenting how women are remembered in public spaces, ‘Finding Her’ is building a visible record of leadership, legacy and progress – echoing the broader impact of science-led innovation in shaping societies.

Osteoporosis progresses quietly, gradually weakening bones until a fracture becomes the first warning sign.

At the SIStra Run in Bangalore on International Women’s Day this year, Dr. Kunvar Upveja, our Global Oncology & Digital Lead of Medical Affairs, spoke about this silent health condition. He explained how bone density declines with age, why women are disproportionately at risk, and how fragility fractures can affect independence and quality of life.

He also outlined key drivers of the osteoporosis crisis: nutritional gaps, hormonal shifts, lack of awareness and gaps in care. Most importantly, he emphasized preventive steps women can take – early screening, weight-bearing exercises, healthy nutrition and timely conversations with healthcare providers.

At Biocon, we believe stronger futures start with informed action. By raising awareness, supporting early detection and bringing science into everyday decisions, we aim to help women protect their mobility, confidence and long-term health.

Eye inflammation is often overlooked.

For people living with uveitis – an inflammatory eye condition – symptoms such as blurred vision, eye pain, redness or sensitivity to light can appear suddenly and become a persistent problem. If left untreated, uveitis can cause serious complications such as cloudy lenses, retinal damage and, in severe cases, partial or permanent loss of vision.

Despite its impact, awareness remains limited. On World Uveitis Day, start conversations with medical professionals that can help recognize early warning signs.

Together, we can shine a light on this disease and encourage people to seek timely care.
