EKA is promoted by four social entrepreneurs who cherish a dream of integrating internship programme with socio–cultural aspects of India for the benefit of aspirants from all over the world. EKA is based in Bangalore, the science and IT capital of India which apart from its strong socio-cultural milieu has a truly cosmopolitan setting. Going forward, Eka intends to introduce value added services
in the field of socio-cultural learning, education, health care and allied services through an approach of social entrepreneurship in its true spirit. Successful companies of the future will be those that generate a unique value proposition: one that appeals to the hearts of all its stakeholders, not just shareholders keen on profit maximisation. While many companies, big and small, grow social shoots, on the other end, social enterprises are expected to eventually resemble commercial enterprises for their sustainability. When Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize awardee and founder of Bangladesh Grameen Bank, was contacted by the Nobel Foundation for the customary interview, he remarked, "poverty is an artificial creation. It doesn’t belong to human civilisation, and we can change that. We can make people come out of poverty, the only thing we have to do is to redesign our institutions and policies." That's what social entrepreneurship is all about, creating business models revolving around low-cost products and services to resolve social inequities. And the realisation that social progress and profit aren't mutually exclusive has led to many social ventures taking root in India as well.
