We’re extremely pleased to announce the launch of a joint study conducted by Culturelytics and the Institute of Directors (IOD) India on ‘The Role of Boards in Managing Organizational Culture’.

The study was unveiled yesterday at the IOD’s 2023 London Global Convention.

As C-Suite executives increasingly identify culture a strategic business priority, to successfully navigate unprecedented change, the study sheds new light on the role of culture in good governance, and how boards can perform their strategic oversight role on this key success factor.

Some key insights from the study:

 Like ESG, Culture will become an integral and measurable element of good corporate governance in the future.

 Board members agree that culture is a critical success factor for their organizations, and that they have a leading role to play to ensure the right culture is created and sustained.

 There is not yet a common understanding of how boards can perform their oversight role on culture.

Key steps will be: introduction of new measurement tools to assess culture, and a clear framework for good practice in the governance of organizational culture.

In early stage investing, understanding what kind of culture a CXO team will build is a core for predicting whether it will stand the test of time. In M&A, 'money follows, but a sense of purpose, values and communications is what keeps people together'. The importance of goal-setting cannot be underestimated. However, most organisations struggle with managing specific challenging goals. They may set ‘targets’ for the employees – be it to double the sales, reduce product-development time by half, make a draft overnight – anything. But they fail to provide them the knowledge to meet these challenging goals. Assigning ambitious targets without any learning or guidance on ways to attain them can lead to stress, work-life imbalance, burnout, and even worse.

While goal-setting is important, a ‘target goal’ – instead of a ‘learning goal’ – can negatively impact one’s performance. Instead of being hooked on just the end result, you need to also focus on the discovery of insightful & effective strategies to attain & sustain the desired targets.
