Dr. RN Shetty is instrumental in the development of the place of his birth – Murudeshwar. He made possible the modernization of the historic Murudeshwara temple and was instrumental in building the 249 ft tall Raja Gopuram of the temple and the 123 ft Shiva statue (tallest in the world in the seated posture).

He established the RN Shetty trust as a charitable trust under which several educational institutions and colleges are rendering quality education from the rural to urban students by starting primary, higher secondary schools, P.U.C, degree college, polytechnic, and engineering colleges.
Other than the trust run educational institutions, he has also contributed significantly to schools and colleges in Hubli, Belgaum, Kundapur, and Sirsi which are named after him/his wife.
