Hi!
As promised, more pictures and details from the Under 25 Summit. Being Eco was partnered with the folks from Under 25 as green partners to manage the waste that was generated during this event and to reach out to the young gen who attended this event. The idea was to keep this a Zero Waste Event and to educate all those attending! That's exactly what we did.
So a brief of what we did during the 2 days of the event (January 9th and 10th):
1. We came up with the idea of using cardboard bins as dry waste collection bins that were spread out all over the venue at the Northern Terrace in the World Trade Centre, Malleshwaram.
This was to reduce the use of plastic wherever possible. We however had to use plastic drums for collecting the wet waste that was generated during this event. We were appointed as green partners 2 days prior to the event so we did have some budget and time constraints which didn't really allow us to carry out the event in the exact way of making this as green as we thought we could. Some unavoidable things like brochures, pamphlets, some water bottles etc. were generated from the various people who had set up stalls at this event. The idea was to reduce the use of plastic and paper wherever possible but it did get challenging in some aspects. With the limited time and budget, Being Eco tried their level best to make do of whatever was available.
2. We had standees and posters all over the venue to tell people about this Zero Waste Initiative that we wanted them to be a part of.
3. We had 'Waste Segregation - Composting Booths' where Being Eco was discussing about the pressing issues of garbage and how it is extremely easy to manage your waste if you began segregating your waste. This way, we were able to reach out to the younger audience who were very keen on doing this at their respective homes. Such joy!
4. The folks at this Summit were kind enough to even let Abhilash talk on stage to the attendees and tell them about what we were doing.
5. All in all, over a 1000 attendees on each of the 2 days for the Summit, 100 + Kgs of dry waste and about 20 Kgs of wet waste and what felt like a million happy faces, we were able to keep this to a minimal waste event if anything.
All the dry waste was shipped away to our recycler nearby and the wet waste was composted using CompAdd.
Lesson Learnt: We've not inherited our Earth from our past ancestors but merely just borrowed it from the next generation.
Stay Green. Stay Blessed.
