What this person in a small town in Maharashtra said, shocked me one evening as I, as a Management trainee at P&G, got out of my stock van with all the arrogance of a fresh MBA and asked the person who was cleaning..... 'Malik kahaan hai?' ...

He turned around in his simple clothes and said.." Main hi maalik hoon" ( I am the owner)! Wow. That brought me to ground reality from 30K feet to zero in 1 nano second. This is what we learn on the street. The true customer empathy, the ability to translate that into what we market, and thereby provide value in a manner that is sought, rather than 'sell' .

ADULT BEDTIME STORIES

A boy was sitting on the seashore and building a sand castle. A little into that effort, there was a lot of enthusiasm and fervour, and watching the castle actually become bigger, his excitement was only growing.
Per chance his eyes suddenly turned a bit and he saw some other boy who was also building a sand castle but who had almost finished and it was looking stunning. This boy suddenly forgot about his castle and started watching that boy, first with admiration, then with a sense of ' feeling low', slowly even turning into a jealous intent as he felt his castle wasn't that big or maybe beautiful. In this mode, another hour passed and his mother came to pick him up and this boy's castle was as is, and in frustration, he kicked it to dust and went back holding his head down while the other was gleaming.

Think about this.
There was nothing wrong in the first boy's castle. He was doing well. Suddenly he let his attention be drawn away from what he was doing and onto what someone else as doing.
All the time that he spent on having multiple feelings about the other boy, only if he had translated onto focusing on his castle, he would have walked out like a King, rather than how he left.
Hence lets all remember that someone else's success is not our journey.
Our efforts and focus on what we are doing is our journey and thats Success in itself.

How often do we do things, SO THAT..we get something or someone does something for us?...And how often have we not been disappointed, leading to far more disturbance than we originally began with? The key lies in doing every act for ITSELF. A Destination. Not it being a route to 'get' something else.
Talk to a friend for the joy there is. Not that you want to build a Network. Spend a few minutes helping someone. Because of the compassion. Not because you get praised for it. Sing a song so that you immerse yourself in that music . So that you become one with the Universe. Not because that would impress someone. So....

Think about this. How many times have we wondered and spent time watching someone else's success while missing out on the efforts that we could inject to enable a success of our own beyond our own dreams
