How to Get Ahead Even If You Don’t Have Large Network

If you want to make an impact in your industry or community you need to have a strong network. A strong network includes people of different industries whom you can vouch for and vice-a-versa.

So, how do you build a large network?

Here are my recommendations.

It Is About Quality Not Quantity

I have said this in my previous posts as well. Rather than having 20 poor ones, having one true connection is always good. Have people in your network that you can talk to on a personal and professional level.

Discover Your Niche

It is common for people to join large groups online trying to voice themselves in an already crowded place. Find your niche. Find that person or people and start contributing to the conversation.

Come Out Of Your Bubble

Change your LinkedIn feed settings, where you can see comments, updates and posts from people you don’t know. This helps you to get out from the network who already knows you to the network of new people.

You Don’t Have To Be Loudest In the Group

It is Ok to be a passive person in a conversation or a group because to make the speaker feel they are being heard is a strong connection in itself.

Networking Tips for Introverts (Shy People)

Networking could be harder for introverts or shy people. They prefer intimate (one-to-one) meetings than crowded events. So, how do they get ahead in a society that recognizes extroverts as an ideal personality?

Here are the tips on networking which will greatly help even the most introverted people.

Don’t Try To Somebody Else – Be Yourself

This may sound cliché, but it is true. Criticizing yourself for being an extrovert will hold you back. You can learn from them, but don’t behave like them. The key here is, to understand your advantages and focus on what works for you.

Re-Evaluate Your Approach

Look for opportunities or situations where you can meet people in intimate settings. You can invite them for a cup of coffee or a small gathering.

Take Small Steps

If talking even one stranger scares you, ask your friend to come along with you. Start the conversation with lines like “what do you think of…..” or “Did you come here last year?” And allow your friend to take over. Practice this with your friend and you’ll be good to go.

Put Listening Skills to Use

Introverts are naturally good listeners because they don’t shout about themselves. So, use your energy to be genuinely interested in others around you. Ask questions and most importantly keep in touch in the long or medium term.

Want To Grow Your Business Beyond Your Network? Here’s What You Should Do

Word of mouth and referrals can only take you so far. If you are getting business only through referrals within your network and you‘re unknown to the world, then, you are in trouble. Here’s the process to gain business out-side your network.

✅ Produce Relevant Content

Start producing content relevant to your business. If you like writing start blogging, if you like talking shoot a video, whatever is comfortable for is good, as long as you are doing it.

✅ Run Ads to Reach New Audience

If you believe in your business, you will not hesitate to put money in behind it. To simply put it, you’ll invest money in your content to reach people that do not know you. With platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, your new audiences are just a click away.

✅ Seek Help from Other Brands

If you cannot establish alone, partner with someone who’s doing that. Approach bigger brands; offer your services or products for free in exchange of your logo on their website or for a case study.

✅ Recommend Others Generously

Did you ever thank someone else job publically? Try doing that and see the wonders. Recommend someone on LinkedIn and the favour is returned. This is an unwritten reciprocity on social media.

Remember it takes discipline to reach audience beyond your connections.

Avoid These Mistakes While Networking

It takes time and effort to become an effective networker - You have to do your homework and come out of comfort zone. And many of you find it hard, even the experienced executives! As a business coach, this is one thing I advise people about - It is definitely worth your effort and time. If you’re doing your best and networking isn’t working for you, then you might be doing one of these mistakes.

1️⃣ Doing Bare Minimum

In this age of technology, everything is done online. But you have to remember there is no substitute for meeting in-person. Networking is best if done face-to-face. You’ll get a better understanding of the person. Even if you’re not good at networking, challenge yourself. You’ll get better at it with practice.

2️⃣ To Treat Networking As One-Way Road

People connect with you not only because they are interested in your idea, but also because they want you to listen to them as well. So don’t hijack the conversation. Building mutual relationships is what networking is about.

3️⃣ Taking Before Giving

Networking is built on give and take basis and giving always comes first. Before you make a sales pitch, think of ways of how you can support them. Work on building a relationship and reputation of being helpful in your network.

4️⃣ Focusing On Numbers

People think collecting as many contact information as possible is networking. Focusing quantity over quality is the mistake most people do. Instead, make a genuine connection and get to know them better.

5️⃣ Not Following-Up

This is the most common and the biggest mistake of all. People make great connections and let them disappear. Networking without following up is a waste of time. Make a plan and do your part to drive the connection to mutually beneficial space.

Tips To Build Your Support Network

Apart from hard work, right daily habits and discipline, there’s one more thing that is important to get ahead in business - Networking.

Do understand that building connections and relationship doesn’t happen overnight. It is an investment of time. If networking is the skill you want to get better at, here are the things you need to do:

➡️ Focus On How You Can Help Others

Connecting with people will not happen on its own. You need to spend time, effort and sometimes money. Life is not based on “quid-pro-quo” (a favour granted in return of something) relationships. If you get anything in return, it’s the byproduct of the value you created first.

➡️ Get Close In-Person

Electronic communications are indeed a way to connect with people. But then again, real relationships are developed on phone calls, video chat and in-person meetings. This does not happen overnight, it’s an investment of time.

➡️ Make People Feel Important

Making feel important is a big part of relationship building. Practice basic courtesies like; showing up on time, do what they say and saying please and thank you. No matter how intelligent or talented you are, if you don’t do these things, you will not be observed as respectful, dependable, or appreciative.

➡️ Be Fun and Memorable

Don’t take yourself too seriously and don’t be too formal. If you can’t laugh at a joke when in a group, why anybody wants to hang out with you?

Things You Should Never Say In a Sales Pitch

Presentations and sales pitch are heart and soul for any business. Without them, there will not be any business. Yet, it is easy to lose an opportunity when the salesperson uses these phrases:

👉 Apologize in advance……….

Do not start your presentation with “I apologize for…….” No matter the reason is an apology says that you are a loser who feels the necessity to lower the audience expectations.

👉 Our Product has this list of features……..

A clueless salesperson depends on the list of feature, in a hope, it will ‘match’ the customers need hope they will be impressed. Do your research! Find out what your prospect needs and pitch only that.

👉 Our Product….

Reduces cost
Increases revenue
Saves time
Saves money
So does every other product. Time and money are interchangeable. Saving one is saving the other right? Such statements will utterly fail. The challenge is how to differentiate yourself from the competition.

👉 We provide high-quality product and best customer service…

According to whom? It is so surprising to see how the salesperson believes that expressing own positive opinion is an effective sales pitch. If you can’t prove it, don’t say it.

👉 It will cost between…

If you give your prospect a price range, they will want the product at the lower price. It is always good to give a specific price.

How to Overcome Business Challenges

Starting a business is tough and you’ll face many challenges when working business sustainability. No matter what business you run, understanding these challenges and overcoming them is something that business owners face. Here are my 4 insights on how to overcome challenges and get ahead:

✔️Accept and Then Solve the Problem

Finding the solution is the first step for building a successful business. But first, you should be aware that something went wrong.

✔️ Analyze Yourself and Your Team

It is an uncomfortable situation to be in, but don’t hesitate to analyze yourself and your team as it is an essential part of building and sustaining a successful business.

Writing a Good Business Plan Even If You Don’t Have Experience

To write a good business plan it depends on why want it. Is it for a loan, to pitch sales or is it for you to help launch or direct your business? If you are starting a business, it is important to know why you want to start the business. If you don’t understand the motivations, you may end up in the wrong direction or set up a business which is not satisfying.

In my opinion there few things that you need to figure out to get started:

➡️ Why you want to start the business and how will you
measure the success?
➡️ What resources you have currently to start your business?
➡️ What resources you still need to start the small version of
your business?
➡️ What is your product and services and how it is valuable to
the customers?
➡️ Who are your target audience and how do you know?
➡️ How you’ll reach them?

Once you have all the answers you can focus on testing, refining, and selling your product/service.

⚡️Sales Pitch Examples Too Good To Ignore....👇

Creating a winning sales pitch is more challenging as customers expect sale pitch to be more personalized. Let me give you some effective sales pitch examples.

1 Refer Past Conversation:

If you have already spoken to the prospect before, do not start sales pitch with your name, product and business. You already built some rapport, so use it. Refer back the last conversation you had to show you remember them. It helps greatly if you have discovered these in the past conversation – what’s the problem you are going to solve, how to address the problem and are you measuring the goals?

2 Start Your Sales Pitch With A Question:

Most salespeople start the sales pitch with “I am X, working for XYZ Company and sell ABS product which solves your so and so problem”.
Rather than this, try posing a question which will make them say ‘YES’ like:
“Have you ever noticed…”
“Doesn’t it look like….”
“You know how…”

If they say ‘YES’ they’ll tell you all about it, if not they are not great prospects.

3 Keep The Sales Pitch Short:

If you have identified the prospect’s problem, and you know how your product/services can solve their problem, you should be able to pitch in one sentence.
You don’t have to tell your prospect what all you can do to them in your first pitch itself. You should leave your prospects wanting more.

4 Highlights Benefits Not Features

I have stressed on this point several times in my previous posts. Customers are interested in how your product or service can solve their problem. So focusing on benefit helps make the information relevant to the customer.

5 Let It Be Conversational Not Formal

You should practice your sales pitch but it should not be a monologue. Give your prospects a small snippet of what you do that will raise their interest.
