As we look for inspirational stories to motivate us, take a moment to think of all the personal victories you have had - the small ones and the big ones. You will realize that you managed to pull off so many things that you once thought were impossible.
If you have a goal and put your heart and soul into it, you will definitely find the strength to achieve it. For this to happen, you need to believe that you can pull it off. You need to believe that there is a hero inside you.

You become the story you tell yourself.
That's why it's important to tell yourself the right stories.

Happy new year to the hero in you.

THERE IS NO GENE FOR THE HUMAN SPIRIT.

Is it possible to change your mindset to a positive one, improve emotional intelligence or leadership skills over time? Can these skills be learnt?

It had been proven that IQ or intellectual intelligence, mindsets (or Emotional intelligence) and leadership traits are hereditary. So are mental disorders like depression, addictions and suicidal tendencies.
If you were to believe this, then it means that no change is possible in the area of human behavior.

One must remember that THERE IS NO GENE FOR THE HUMAN SPIRIT.
This is a quote from the move Gattaca.

If you are motivated enough, have real ‘intent’, are committed to change and are willing to put in the hard work required, then any behavioral change is possible. You have to undo at the brain level certain rehearsed habits which are our habitual ways of reacting.

You need to believe that these traits are like muscles that you can develop in a gym with daily exercise. Like muscles you can develop these over time and maintain them. This requires strong intention, motivation and commitment to growth.

Q. SHOULD A WOMAN CHOOSE WORK OR FAMILY?
A. YOU'RE ASKING THE WRONG QUESTION.

As a woman who has worked for over twenty years, I can tell you that I have found both work and family fulfulling. I have also managed to strike a balance between the two. I was fortune to never find myself in an environment that made me choose one over the other. However, I understand that may not be the case in many parts of the country. A patriarchal system is still very much predominant in India. In this system, men and women have pre-assigned roles. The man provides. The woman nurtures. But this is not a law. Things are changing. More and more women are becoming financially independent. More and more men are learning to be sensitive. We live in a new world where the old boundaries are being crossed every day. So its time to recognize and step out of patriarchal questions like "Must a woman devote herself primarily to work or family?" and instead ask free-thinking, modern questions like "How can I balance work and family?"

Q. DO I NEED TO BE PERFECT AT EVERYTHING I DO?
A. YES AND NO

We always hear the phrase, "Don't aim for perfection." But I believe unless one aims for 'perfect' one cannot approach 'very good'. In areas like work or child rearing, it is important to know what perfection looks like, so you can do as well as you can because these are important areas in your life. But make perfection work for you and not the other way round. So the idea is to keep journeying on the road to perfection, and to not necessarily want to be there all the time. The latter is not possible and leads to unnecessary stress. Then again, recognize the areas where you cannot or do not want to achieve a level of high competency or perfection and delegate these tasks to others. If working with numbers makes you uncomfortable, delegate it to someone else. Choose where you want to be perfect. Have an idea of what perfection looks like and strive for it every day without holding it as the only gold standard. Keep space for surprises and new learning!

MONDAYS ARE FOR INSPIRATION

‘SOMETIMES WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE F*CKED, YOU ARE ONLY 45% F*UCKED”.
- Nirmal Purja, First Mountaineer to scale world’s 14 highest peaks

I happened to see this movie ’14 peaks’ over the weekend and was deeply inspired and moved.

Every year during the climbing season, several international climbers, the serious ones and the hobbyists make a bee line to the 8000+ peaks. For every climber, there is a sherpa or Nepali climber or a group of sherpas who are making the same journey. But, the Sherpas do not get any recognition and they remain faceless.

Nirmal (Nims)wanted to change that. He wanted to bring these native Nepali climbers into the limelight and at least give them their due credit. So he decided to do “Project Possible.” The earlier record of climbing all the 14 peaks was seven years, and Nims had decided he would climb it all in 7 months. And, he did it in style.

14 peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, is a must-watch Netflix documentary for all the dreamers, wanderers, rebels, outcasts, and underdogs. It tells us that it isn’t over unless you say it is.

Q. I AM IN MY 20S. WHAT SHOULD I AIM FOR?
A. FIND 3 HOBBIES. ONE TO MAKE YOU MONEY. ONE TO KEEP YOU FIT. ONE TO KEEP YOU CREATIVE.

Everyone's goals are different. Some want professional success above everything else. Some value freedom and personal relationships more. Whatever your goals may be, I urge you to find three 'hobbies' to anchor you through life. The first hobby must be something that helps you make money. It can be writing or networking or anything linked to a strength inside you. The second hobby should be something that keeps you physically fit, be it squash or hiking. The third hobby is something that helps your soul grow. It can be playing the piano or simply going for walks with friends. No matter how your life unfolds, these three 'hobbies' can be your anchor through thick and thin.

WHAT DRIVES YOU?

What makes us do what we do? Why do some of us excel at writing, some at managing tasks, and some at building consensus?

The answer is motivation.

Whatever we do at any given point is driven by a motive. But sometimes, we don’t know our own motives. When that happens, we have less knowledge of who we are and cannot control how we feel. All our actions can be traced back to six motivations:

1. Need for certainty

2. Need for variety

3. Need for love and belonging

4. Need for significance

5. Need for growth

6. Need for contribution

EVERYTHING STARTS WITH A THOUGHT

A man who has gone out of his town comes back and finds that his house is on fire.

It was one of the most beautiful houses in the town, and the man loved the house the most! Many were ready to give double price for the house, but he had never agreed for any price and now it is just burning before his eyes.

And thousands of people have gathered, but nothing can be done, the fire has spread so far that even if you try to put it out, nothing will be saved. So he becomes very sad.

His son comes running and whispers something in his ear:

"Don't be worried. I sold it yesterday and at a very good price ― three times.

The offer was so good I could not wait for you. Forgive me."

Father said, "thank God, it's not ours now!" Then the father is relaxed and became a silent watcher, just like 1000s of other watchers.

Please think about it!

Just a moment before he was not a watcher, he was attached.

It is the same house....the same fire.... everything is the same...but now he is not concerned.

In fact started enjoying it just as everybody else in the crowd.

Then the second son comes running, and he says to the father, "What are you doing? You are smiling ― and the house is on fire?" The father said, "Don't you know, your brother has sold it."

He said, "We have taken only advance amount, not settled fully. I doubt now that the man is going to purchase it now."

Again, everything changes!!

Tears which had disappeared, have come back to the father's eyes, his smile is no more there, his heart is beating fast. The 'watcher' is gone. He is again attached.

And then the third son comes, and he says, "That man is a man of his word. I have just come from him. He said, 'It doesn't matter whether the house is burnt or not, it is mine. And I am going to pay the price that I have settled for. Neither you knew, nor I knew that the house would catch on fire.'"

Again the joy is back and family became 'watchers'! The attachment is no more there.

Actually nothing is changing!

Just the feeling that "I am the owner! I am not the owner of the house!" makes the whole difference.

*The Moral :*

This simple methodology of watching the mind, That you have nothing to do with it.
