JUST IN: Tripura Agarwood Market is set to transform the economy, Rs. 2000 Crore estimated
With the increase of Government focus on Agarwood, the agar-seller-buyer meet was held on Wednesday at Agartala.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal addressed the programme virtually from New Delhi appreciating the state government step to transform the economy mentioning Tripura as the global capital of Agar.
The 'Tripura Agar Policy 2021' was initiated earlier this year to upgrade and boost Tripura agar export market worth Rs. 2000 Crore. Reportedly there is around 50 lakhs Agar trees in Tripura.
Tripura Government is presently aiming to export 75,000 Kg of Agar chips and 2,000 Kg of Agar Oil. Agarwood is one of the most expensive natural raw material which can be used to manufacture several luxurious value-added-products like perfume, carvings and incense.
The two day seller-buyer-meet, aimed at building an economically viable Agarwood industry in Tripura, was jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Non-Timber Forest Product Centre of Excellence, Forest Department of Tripura government and Tripura SCATFORM Project. CM Biplab Deb along with Forest Minister N.C. Debbarma and TW Minister Mevar Kr Jamatia were present at the inauguration Day.
