It was a singular honour and a profound intellectual odyssey to be invited by the venerable Sarvajanik University, Surat, to deliver a keynote discourse on the transformative Wage Code and Industrial Relations (IR) Code. These legislative milestones represent a tectonic shift in the metamorphosing paradigm of India’s labor landscape.

We embarked on a surgical dissection of the unified "Wages" definition, unraveling its labyrinthine complexities and the inevitable ripple effects it casts upon the industrial ecosystem. From the herculean challenge of recalibrating labor costs for employers to the critical enhancements in social security safeguards for the workforce, no stone was left unturned.

Our dialogue cast a microscopic lens on a wide spectrum of pivotal provisions, including:

[1] … The Nuance of Remuneration: A granular analysis of remuneration, included / excluded / deemed wages in cash and kind including what is not remuneration at all.

[2] … The Statutory Equilibrium: Floor wages, % rise in allocable surplus, and the ethos of "One Nation, One Discipline” with inclusion of cyber and work from home misconducts,

[3] … The Redressal Mechanism: The constitution of grievance redressal committee, negating union / council, reconstitution of Industrial Tribunals, the rigor of strike and pliability of retrenchment protocols, visionary Re-skill Fund and the whole spectrum of offences and penalties.

The intellectual fervour in the hall was palpable. The HR fraternity and students displayed a rapt attentiveness and a probing inquisitiveness that truly ignited a crucible of learning. This synergy was seamlessly facilitated by the university’s impeccable stewardship and hallmark of academic excellence.

My heartfelt commendations to my fellow speakers who extol their intellectual prowess, the visionary leadership and astute teamwork of Sarvajanik University, Surat for orchestrating this resounding success. We stand at the precipice of a new era, one where labour laws do not merely regulate, but empower and harmonize the engines of our economy.

Communication is like a vehicle of our thoughts. Our message is the cargo, and we are the driver. If we don’t drive it carefully, the consequences can be disastrous.

History gives us a reminder : the casual remark of Draupadi — “Andhe ka beta andha” — became the spark that ignited the great Mahabharata war.

Effective Communication fosters interdependence, coherence, vibrancy & productivity within organizations, and brand image outside.

The Gita says : “Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam” i.e. adroitness in action itself is Yoga. It comes when we are free from the weight of past memories, future anxieties and live in present. The same principle applies to communication : Live in the present and stay mindful while communicating, be it verbal, non-verbal or written. That is the open sesame of effective communication.

Attitude shapes destiny — in life, in industry, in results.

Recently, I conducted an intense and interactive training on “How Breakthrough in Attitude Brings Breakthrough in Knowledge, Culture and Results” for key OPEX team members, this time at Thermax - Jhagadia Plant.

History reminds us: once, smallpox was seen as an incurable “Act of God.” Humanity shifted its attitude — from resignation to determination — and discovered a vaccine. The same spirit guided us in tackling COVID-19.

Similarly, today’s industrial workforce must believe that wastage, rejection, COPQ, sustainability, profitability, and market share are not fate but fully controllable. With such a breakthrough in attitude, results will follow — without excuse, at unprecedented levels.

This was a humble yet high-impact shopfloor session — small in profile, but rich in transformation. Grateful to the enthusiastic participants whose energy and openness made this learning journey truly impactful.
