Sofa Making
Some furniture makers work privately and produce furniture on a small scale, while others construct furniture for corporate clients. Formal education is typically not required to become a furniture maker, however, It is also common to work as an apprentice under the guidance of a skilled furniture tradesman or take additional training courses. The main sectors within the industry are: Furniture making (cabinet making) - Products are produced for commercial or domestic use from manufactured board and/or solid wood. Upholstery manufacturing - The manufacture of lounge suites, sofas, settees and chairs mainly from fabrics and leathers. Finishing (polishing) - The application of paint, stains, lacquers and other coatings to furniture and furniture components using spray equipment and other application techniques. How could I get into the industry? Cabinet makers need to have: knowledge of furniture styles, and timber and cabinet-making materials cabinet-making skills, including knowledge of furniture-making and repair methods design skills technical drawing skills and the ability to read diagrams knowledge of production standards the ability to operate machinery and use tools correctly. Self employed cabinet makers need marketing and business skills.
