How to start your sustainable fashion journey

Sustainable fashion is a movement and process of fostering change to fashion products and the fashion system towards greater ecological integrity and social justice. Sustainable fashion concerns more than addressing fashion textiles or products. It comprises addressing the whole system of fashion. This means dealing with interdependent social, cultural, ecological and financial systems.[1] It also means considering fashion from the perspective of many stakeholders - users and producers, all living species, contemporary and future dwellers on earth. Sustainable fashion therefore belongs to, and is the responsibility of, citizens, public sector and private sector. A key example of the need for systems thinking[2] in fashion is that the benefits of product-level initiatives, such as replacing one fiber type for a less environmentally harmful option, is eaten up by increasing volumes of fashion products. An adjacent term to sustainable fashion is eco fashion.

Job Profiles in Fashion design
Once you have completed a course in Fashion design, you may choose to work at any of the following profiles-

1. Fashion Designer: In this field, one has to design clothes like dresses, jeans, T-shirts, tops, shirts, etc. One can build their own fashion brand or can work under a fashion company.
2. Fashion Marketer: One will be responsible for planning, directing and coordinating marketing policies. In this profile, one can work for clothing companies or boutiques.
3. Fashion Concept Manager: One has to think and plan about the unique themes and designs for clothing or accessory range.
4. Personal Stylist/Fashion Consultant: Become a stylist and help people get a makeover.
5. Quality Controller: The work is to control quality standards for clothing and other apparel.
6. Technical Designer: One is responsible for how the clothes will be stitched and made. The work is also to put in details in sewing, wash descriptions, label placements and packing instructions.
7. Fashion Show Organizers: The work is to organize fashion events and shows for fashion designers.
