We had a MHM session organised by the SDO (Civil) Bokakhat for the women officers and staff of all government departments in Bokakhat sub division.
Some of the key issues that were discussed were Gender inequality, discriminatory social norms, cultural taboos, poverty and lack of basic services like toilets and sanitary products which can all cause menstrual health and hygiene needs to go unmet.
We also did a product analysis of all the menstrual products to see how it impacts our health, environment, finances, cultural and social life. This has far-reaching consequences for millions of people. It restricts their mobility and personal choices. It affects attendance in school and participation in community life. And it compromises their safety, causing additional stress and anxiety.

Menstruation doesn’t stop during disasters. When disaster strikes, part of our work is to ensure that all those in need ~ girls, women, non-binary people, & trans men have access to safe resources to manage their menstrual health during emergencies.
At Diffloopathar in Kaziranga, although the flood water is gradually receding but there is still lack of clean drinking water, no clean restrooms, no private spaces to change and dispose of waste properly.
We work to ensure that people are informed about the menstrual cycle, so that they know how to manage their menstrual hygiene in difficult conditions, where to access products and how to dispose of them.
Most of our actions in these areas are group meetings and consultation processes to learn about the specific needs of menstruating people. Our hygiene kit contains products that have been designed keeping’s in mind the specific needs of the menstruators.

Women and adolescent girls in disaster-prone and fragile contexts face many challenges ~ Assam floods is one such. Our relief camp was organised at Jugonia village in golaghat district today for distributing hygiene kits to 60 families (for mostly women & girls). The villagers had to take a boat to reach the other side to collect the relief materials. What really touched us deeply was to see a mother row the boat herself with her young daughter to collect the materials (scroll to see the pic at the end).
The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) has released water from multiple dams in respond to relentless rains and strong winds, triggering severe flooding across several regions in Assam, this was one such village which was affected by it.
Thank you to all those who made it possible for us to distribute these kits, we would like your continuous support so that we can reach out to more communities.
To donate please scan the QR code on the fundraising poster shared in our page.

Heavy rains and floods in the northeastern state have affected more than 21 lakh residents across 29 districts in recent weeks. They have also damaged 57,018 hectares of crop land, the state disaster response authority said. The rains have also affected over 14.5 lakh animals, with 98 of them reportedly being swept away by the floodwaters on Thursday.
Our relief distribution drive today was held at Jugoniati village, Rajabari with the help of ASHA workers, ANM and ASHA Supervisor.
The government is providing ration at the relief camps and we are trying to meet the hygiene concerns.
We need more hygiene kits to be distributed at many more such camps and we need your support for that. You can contribute by sponsoring one or more hygiene kits, details of how you can donate can be found on our fundraising poster.
We look forward to your love and support! 🌸

Pictures from our field visits to several villages in Golaghat district’s west division today ~ our team spoke to several women and girls regarding their sanitation and hygiene needs/concern. Using toilets specially for women and girls have become extremely difficult, they have been defecating in the water after dark and reaching a high ground using a boat during daylight.
Menstrual hygiene is extremely poor with no clean water to wash and keep them dry. They are disposing their used menstrual cloth in the water or re-using a damp cloth. Even the very few who are using pads are using it for longer hours so that they do not have to buy more pads. Used pads are also being dumped in water and few of them store it in a polythene bag and would burn it when the water recedes.
We need your help in providing them with hygiene kits. Kindly donate generously at the UPI or scan the QR code given on the fundraising poster earlier.

Five major rivers, including Brahmaputra at two places, were flowing over the danger level ~ altogether 2,62,186 people remain affected by flood in Kamrup, Karimganj, Tinsukia, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Majuli, Cachar, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Sivsagar, Kokrajhar and Jorhat districts. Reported on 30th June.
Women and adolescent girls are without the basic facilities and resources they need for proper menstrual health management and this need usually goes unnoticed during these critical times. We try to help them meet those needs but we cannot do it without your support.
So, we request you to help us as you always have in the past.
Let’s come together for the people in Assam.

The Samagr Shikha Assam had installed pad vending machines and incinerators across select ME, high and PM Shree schools in Assam. Golaghat district’s west zone had 31 schools under this scheme. Just before MH Day, 2024 we surveyed all 31 schools and found out that they were not operational so we immediately called for a training on installation and operations of those machines. The training was attended by all 31 schools. Sanitary pads are now to be provided by the Samagr Siksha Assam to be used in the pad vending machines. We are hoping that the pads can be supplied soon so that the menstruators in schools can start benefiting out of this intervention.

Amidst mild cyclone in Assam since the last two days we were still able to get 31 schools to celebrate Menstrual Hygiene Day with us today ~ quite a risk though! The plan was to end the event at 3 pm but due to the notice that was sent by the DC Golaghat district today (which the schools received at around 11.30 am) to immediately close all schools due to severe storm, we had to end it at 1 pm. There was panic amongst the management to stop our program and send the students home!! How does one send the students home in a storm? 😳
So, all the students decided to stay back and wait for the storm/rain to stop and continue the session. We were able to continue our celebration for another 1.5 hours and have some hot khichdi that was prepared as a mid day meal in the school.
We had to cancel several outdoor activities, film screening (due to power cut) and play games outside, nevertheless the spirit was ~ the show must go on and that’s what we did with whatever resources we had.
This MHDay will always be a memorable one!
Also, we have received updates from all the schools confirming that the students have reached home safely. 💛

To bleed is a natural thing and something that half the population of the world goes throughout their lives.
We say it is time to debunk all the fear, doubt and conditioning that lies in this phase in the modern world and HOW?
One of the most effective ways is menstrual painting!
Painting with period blood can be one of the highest forms of self-expression and liberation from the limited beliefs and taboos that millions of menstruators have dragged in from their former years of being a woman.
This medium will continue teaching every single month so many incredible things. It teaches the privilege that comes in honouring this time as sacred, it emphasises the innate capacity to transform the period pains into timeless feminine wisdom, cues for holistic health and harness it as a nourishing practice of self love and self inquiry. If this sounds interesting to you then join us for the workshop this Sunday the 19th, call on the number given in the poster to register! 🌸💜
