HR Manager to Candidate: “If you were an animal, what would you be?”
Candidate: "I would be a lion as it symbolizes strength, resilience and the ability to lead a team."
HR Manager: "A lion is aggressive in nature. I don’t think you quite fit what we are looking for."
Candidate: "I wasn’t aware there was a right or wrong answer."
This scenario happened in an actual job interview.
Recruiters and HR Managers, do you want someone who can give you predetermined answers to irrelevant questions, or someone who can actually perform on the job? Every day, I see the same jobs re-posted, being left vacant for months. Yet there are so many talented individuals still job searching. There is no "Perfect" candidate. If you want the best talent, focus on the real person and what value they can bring instead of looking for silly reasons to cross people off.
