Weaving Data into Stories: Creative Writing Workshop

The session, ‘Weaving Data into Stories’, is hosted by Rajeshwari and Stuthi, who bring together their distinct experience in education and economics. What brings them together is a shared passion for nurturing children’s curiosity and critical thinking by encouraging them to observe, reflect, and creatively express their ideas about the world.

For the write-up, we often imagine data and storytelling as worlds apart. Data belongs in Math class, writing in English class! Yet, real learning spills beyond neat boundaries. A journalist scans numbers before crafting a headline. A scientist transforms results into a story. A sports commentator spins a scorecard into suspense. When children learn to interpret data thoughtfully and share it vividly, they gain a lifelong gift for understanding the world and for making their voices heard.

Maybe in Another Universe 🪐 | An Open Mic Evening at Backyard

If you had another chance to rewrite the story, would you pick up the pen?

Somewhere in the multiverse, there is a version of you still waiting to be written.
Maybe they have wings. Maybe they have the degree you always wanted. Maybe they live in a house with a lawn, or maybe they are chasing adrenaline on a mountain trail.

This open mic is for all the versions of you - the almosts, the maybes, the what-ifs, and the dreams that still linger. The maybes in another universe.

On our walls this month: works by .j ✍️

She is a lawyer by Profession, a traveller/trekker by Passion, a writer by enthusiasm, and above all, someone who loves to bring a change in People’s lives.

📍At Backyard, we’ve always believed walls should do more than decorate a room. They should hold conversations. Memories. Questions. Stories people were once told to shrink.

These poems sit across our space like fragments of lived experience: Subtle first. Sharp later.

As you walk through Backyard this week, pause for the details. Read the words closely. Sit with the feelings they leave behind. 🎞️🖋️

Because sometimes art does not ask to be understood immediately.
Sometimes it simply asks to be witnessed

On our walls this month: works by .taken.aback 🖤

Featuring an artist from Hyderabad whose work quietly lingers with you long after you’ve looked away. Through oil, acrylic, pen, and pencil, she captures faces, gestures, emotions, and fragments of people as they are: raw, layered, human.

At Backyard, we’ve always believed art should feel lived in, not distant. Something you accidentally pause for while walking to coffee. Something that starts conversations between strangers. Something that inspires ideas before words even arrive.

So this month, our walls are filled with expressions, memories, tension, softness, music, loneliness, humour, rebellion, and the strange beauty of being human 🎞️🖋️

Come walk through the space.
Work with art in the background.
Sit beside a piece that makes you feel something. Meet people. View the work of artists. Exchange stories. Be inspired, and maybe inspire someone back.

Because sometimes the best connections begin quietly,
between a person and a wall they couldn’t stop looking at ✨

Spill the tea? Never.
At backyard we take sips while some chug as the steam rises to fog up the spectacles. Each drink has Kavitha Akka’s smile as a dash of love like a cherry on top.
So why should we ever spill the tea when we could have every last bit of it.

On our walls this month: works by .art 🖼️🖌️

A self-taught abstract artist based in Chennai. Her painting process involves the application of layered colours, marks, and textures. Through the layers of process, the paintings slowly emerge, and she sees herself not as their creator but as a witness to their unfolding.

📍At Backyard, we’ve always believed walls should do more than decorate a room. They should hold conversations. Memories. Questions. Stories people were once told to shrink.

These paintings sat across our space like fragments of lived experience.
