If there was an overarching sense of guilt, wonder, pride and hope, this building has to be that place. I have read numerous reports of how shoddily the reconstruction of this place is progressing and how long it is taking. I have endorsed such views in utter ignorance. When I went to this place, all of my theoretical assumptions of this place from what I have read and heard on the media, vanished. Richard planned everything for me and I have to say, to have a friend do something this magnificent, is a gift. The idea to go visit the One World Trade Center was well thought and I'm grateful to have excellent company when I visited New York. Some of the streets I walked through were near replicas of the streets that I had seen on the news, where people ran away from the falling towers, covered in dust, while blood oozed through their body, contrasting with concrete dust.

From that image of this place, which was the last impressionable memory of the World Trade Center, to see this, is hope of the highest order.

If you cannot stop people from being free, what good is your violence and mass murder going to do?

Yegnaseni, a theatrical dance production of Shri. Madurai R Muralidaran, featuring Uma Muralikrishna. Based off the Epic of Mahabaratha, the dance concert premiered in Chennai and is scheduled to be replayed worldwide.

I had the opportunity to shoot a dance concert after a long time. While i shot many images, i toyed around with the Canon EOS 60D and shot a video, experimentally and tried to nail some stills amidst the video.

I guess the best of those is this one. What you see here is the South Indian Classical Dance style of Kuchipudi, where the dancer has to perform on top of a brass plate, by placing their feet on the edges of the brass plate.

Its safe to say that its tough and takes a lot of practice, but potentially risky as well. Its quite likely that if one slips, one falls to injure or worse, cut themselves in the plate they are dancing on.

I have used the 100MM Macro lens to shoot images before and as everyone knows already, i use the macro for portraits and i hardly shoot any macros with that lens, since im more of a portrait person. I have the say, the video quality on the 60D is impressive and not to mention, the 100MM is a gem of a lense.

This shot required some stabilization and the tripod came in handy. Not breathing while shooting it made me sweat like a pig but that of course, my occupational hazard, i guess :)

Are you sure?

This is often a look i get from the Kitty when we are into a shoot. The "Are you sure about what you are doing?" look. I'll take my chances. I'd rather have a sh*tty image that will never see the light of the day, than miss a wonderful one because she isn't so sure.

Lighting for this is pretty straight forward. 1000 watt bulb on the right and the 430EX flash bounced off the roof.

Shot at the Sivagami Pettachchi Auditorium during one of Deepa Mahadevans dance concert performances. Colored light is always challenging yet rewarding. When you nail the right blend of reds, yellows, blue and greens, the joy of that accomplishment is quite sensational. In this instance though, there were merely green from the left and yellow from the right and a bit of orange from above which is almost invisible.

I’m always curious of how color of the light is representative of human emotion, many a times. It sort of changes how you look at things or rather how you feel about things.

Happiness is Top Priority

So I’m walking along the campus of Sun Yat Sen University and I’ve been walking around since morning and its almost 2 pm. I'm famished and I’m all set to get out of the place and I’m probably like about 50 foot away from the gate. 2 School kids are going back home with their father and i pass by them and smile at them. Instantly they start screaming with excitement and the moment I touch my camera this girl does, this! She was busy eating her cake a few seconds before I walked into her sight and now it looks to me like the cake does not matter much, anymore. Looking like the happiest person in the world in front of the camera is absolute life or death an issue, from the looks of it :)
The other kid, probably her brother grabs my crutch and wants to play with it. They are screaming with laughter and are thrilled at seeing me. The father had to finally bid goodbye and dragged the kid’s home and boy they weren’t happy with it. What an awesome day it was. I wish everyday was like this.
