The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is available in two petrol engine options. The 1.0-litre next-gen K-Series dual jet, dual VVT engine petrol engine is available in manual, AGS, and CNG options. The manual version produces 66bhp at 5,500rpm and 89Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, while the CNG mode generates 82.1Nm of torque at 3,400rpm. The 1.2-litre advance K-series dual jet, dual VVT engine with Idle Start Stop technology generates 89bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4,400rpm. This engine is available in both manual and AGS options. For added convenience, the AGS version also offers the hill hold function.

The Hyundai Alcazar is, in essence, a 3-row version of the Creta, but Hyundai has put a lot of work into setting it apart. It has a longer body and wheelbase, bigger wheels, revised styling, more equipment, and a larger 2.0-litre petrol engine. It is available as a 6-seater with captain's chairs for the middle row or a 7-seater with a bench seat. According to Hyundai, the Kona Electric will be ‘India’s First Real Electric SUV’. The electric version is due for India launch on 9 July. It is believed that Hyundai will introduce the Kona EV in India via the CKD route and it will be locally assembled at the company’s facility in Chennai. Reports indicate Hyundai to bring 1,000 units of the Kona Electric in India.

As compared to the regular model, the electric version gets subtle updates in form of a new grille with charging port, redesigned front bumper with aerodynamic intake vents, and a revised rear bumper to conceal the exhaust vents.The battery pack is integrated into the all-new platform, and the e-SUV comes with 373-litre boot space.

Internationally, the Kona EV is available with two powertrain options that offer different power outputs and driving range. The Short Range variant is powered by a 39.2kWh battery pack that provides a range of 300km. It makes 133bhp of maximum power and can make the 0-100kmph sprint in 9.3 seconds. The Long Range version is powered by a 64kWh battery pack that offers a driving range of 470km. It produces 201bhp with and does 0-100kmph in 7.6 seconds. The 39.2kWh version can be fully charged in 6 hours, while the 64kWh battery pack takes around 9 hours to charge.

Additionally, the Kona electric comes with a 100kW DC fast charger, which can charge the SUV up to 80 per cent in just 54 minutes. The Kona EV is likely to be priced between Rs 25 lakhs to Rs 30 lakhs.

Market introduction:

The Tata Nexon EV was launched in India on 28 January, 2020.

Engine and specification:

Propelling the Tata Nexon EV is a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery that produces 74bhp and 170Nm of torque.

Exterior design:

In terms of exterior design, the Tata Nexon EV gets projector headlamps, LED DRLs, tri-arrow LED tail lights, piano-black ORVMs, roof rails, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a shark fin antenna, and electric blue accents.

Interior and features:

Inside, the Tata Nexon EV receives features in the form of an electric sunroof, automatic climate control, a height-adjustable driver seat, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a cooled glove-box.

Colours:

The Tata Nexon can be had in teal blue, moonlit silver, glacier white, and black (Dark Edition).

Seating capacity:

The Tata Nexon EV has a seating capacity of five occupants.

Rivals:

The 2021 MG ZS EV has been introduced in India with a price tag of Rs 21 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated model is available in two variants, Excite and Exclusive, priced at Rs 21 lakh and Rs 24.18 lakh, respectively.

Compared to the outgoing model, the 2021 MG ZS EV gets an updated iSmart system with Hinglish voice commands. This technology enables the vehicle to respond to over 35 Hinglish voice commands that operate various car functions such as opening the sunroof (Khul Ja Sim Sim), turning on the radio (FM Chalao), and adjusting the AC temperature controls (Temperature K*m Kardo). The ground clearance of the ZS EV has been increased by 16mm, and now stands at 177mm. The model also rides on new 215/55 R17 tyres.

Design highlights of the 2021 MG ZS EV include projector headlamps, LED DRLs, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, and an integrated rear spoiler. Inside, the model comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, three-level Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), drive modes, electric parking brake, six airbags, HSA, HDC, reverse parking camera and sensors, as well as a pedestrian warning system. The 2021 MG ZS EV is powered by a 44.5 kWh battery that continues to produce 143bhp and 353Nm of torque. The model has a claimed range of 419kms (up from 340kms), and can sprint from 0-100kmph in 8.5 seconds. The ZS EV can be charged with a 50kW DC fast charger that enables 0-80 per cent charge in 50 minutes, while a standard AC charger takes six to eight hours for a full charge.
