“The Null Hypothesis is written as H₀.

It represents:
✅ No change
✅ No effect
✅ No difference

Think of it as the ‘default assumption.’
In simple words:
‘Nothing unusual is happening.’

Example:
Suppose a pharmaceutical company introduces a new tablet and claims it reduces headache faster.

The null hypothesis says:
👉 ‘The new tablet does NOT reduce headache faster than the old tablet.’

So the null hypothesis always assumes the current situation remains true.”

“Now let’s understand the Alternate Hypothesis.
The Alternate Hypothesis is written as H₁ or Ha.

It represents:
✅ There IS an effect
✅ There IS a change
✅ There IS a difference

Using the same tablet example:
The alternate hypothesis says:
👉 ‘The new tablet reduces headache faster than the old tablet.’

So the alternate hypothesis supports the claim we want to prove.”

What is 5S?
A Lean methodology to organize, clean, and sustain the workplace for better efficiency, safety, and productivity.

1️⃣ SORT (Seiri) : https://youtube.com/shorts/JaoXI2r29Ao
Remove what is not needed
Eliminate unnecessary items
Keep only essential tools/materials
Red-tag unused items
Goal: Free up space & reduce clutter

2️⃣ SET IN ORDER (Seiton) : https://youtube.com/shorts/wP0r7Mmq8Zs
Arrange items for easy access
“A place for everything”
Label and organize tools
Use shadow boards / markings
Goal: Reduce search time

3️⃣ SHINE (Seiso) : https://youtube.com/shorts/9SHQrvgUnNg
Clean and inspect regularly
Clean workplace daily
Identify leaks, damages
Maintain equipment
Goal: Improve safety & detect issues early

4️⃣ STANDARDIZE (Seiketsu) : https://youtube.com/shorts/gk11BBBReS4
Create consistent practices
Develop standard procedures
Use visual controls
Maintain uniformity
Goal: Ensure consistency

5️⃣ SUSTAIN (Sh*tsuke) : https://youtube.com/shorts/8NbQZCZ6FtQ
Maintain discipline & habit
Regular audits
Training & awareness
Build culture
Goal: Make 5S a habit

BENEFITS OF 5S : Reduced search time | Increased productivity | Improved safety | Cost reduction | Better workplace morale

QUICK MEMORY TRICK : Sort → Set → Shine → Standardize → Sustain

What is Hypothesis Testing?
A statistical method used to make decisions using data — by testing an assumption about a population.

Two Key Hypotheses:
H₀ (Null Hypothesis): No change / No effect
Example : H₀: Process improvement did not reduce defects
H₁ (Alternative Hypothesis): There is a change / effect
Example : H₁: Process improvement reduced defects

Decision Logic
Compare test statistic or p-value with significance level (α)

Key Terms
p-value: Probability of observing result if H₀ is true
α (Significance Level): Risk of wrong decision (commonly 0.05)
Test Statistic: Calculated value (Z, t, etc.)

Decision Rule
If p-value ≤ α → Reject H₀ ✅
If p-value > α → Fail to reject H₀ ❌

Errors in Decision
Type I Error: Rejecting true H₀ (False alarm)
Type II Error: Not rejecting false H₀ (Missed detection)

Simple Way to Remember
👉 “Hypothesis testing = Using data to prove if a change is real or just random”

What is Overproduction Waste?
Producing more, earlier, or faster than customer demand.

Why it is the Worst Waste
Leads to all other wastes (inventory, motion, waiting, etc.)
Consumes resources unnecessarily
Hides process inefficiencies and defects
Creates excess inventory

Common Examples
Producing goods without confirmed orders
Large batch production “just in case”
Printing unnecessary reports or documents
Making extra parts to avoid setup time
Early production before it is needed

Impact on Business
Increased storage and holding cost
Excess inventory buildup
Risk of obsolescence
Longer lead time
Hidden quality issues

Root Causes
Poor demand forecasting
Push production system
Large batch sizes
Long setup/changeover time
Lack of production planning control

How to Reduce (Lean Solutions)
Implement Just-In-Time (JIT)
Use Kanban (pull-based production)
Reduce setup time (SMED)
Produce based on actual customer demand
Level production (Heijunka)

Quick Identification Tip
👉 “If you are producing without a customer need → It is Overproduction Waste”

What is Waiting Waste?
Idle time when people, machines, or materials are not moving or being processed.

Why it is a Waste
Adds time without value creation
Reduces process efficiency
Causes flow interruptions
Increases lead time

Common Examples
Operators waiting for materials or instructions
Machines idle due to breakdowns
Delays between process steps
Waiting for approvals or decisions
System downtime / slow IT systems

Impact on Business
Increased cycle time
Loss of productivity
Poor resource utilization
Customer dissatisfaction due to delays

Root Causes
Poor planning and scheduling
Unbalanced workloads
Equipment downtime
Delayed decision-making
Lack of standardized processes

How to Reduce (Lean Solutions)
Balance workloads (line balancing)
Implement Standard Work
Improve maintenance (TPM – Total Productive Maintenance)
Streamline approvals and decision flow
Use Kanban to improve flow

“If nothing is happening and time is passing → It is Waiting Waste”
