Ancient heritage meets modern lighting design. 🛕✨

Standing on the edge of the Bay of Bengal for over 2,000 years, the sacred Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur is a true architectural marvel. We are honoured to see our lighting design for this coastal treasure featured in arc magazine (Arc Magazine)!

The challenge? Preserve the “sacred darkness” essential to Dravidian temple architecture while ensuring millions of devotees can navigate safely—all without touching or drilling into a single piece of ancient stone.

Here’s how Lighting Research & Design brought this ancient sanctuary into the light:
🪨 100% Non-Invasive: Mounted all fixtures entirely on pre-existing cable trays—protecting every inch of 2,000-year-old granite.
👁️ Low-Glare Volumetric Light: Soft 3000K warm light washes the floors and ceilings, revealing 124 carved pillars in stunning 3D detail without harsh glare.
🌊 Marine-Grade Toughness: Engineered to withstand relentless coastal salt spray and humidity.
🕯️ Respecting the Sacred: Guided eyes naturally from bright coastal sunlight to the quiet, dark mystery of the inner sanctum.

A special full-circle moment: Conservation architects Aishwarya KV & Keerthana Murali (Conservation Mainstream) first studied lighting under our founder, Dr. Amardeep M. Dugar—making this landmark project a true masterclass in mentorship and collaboration.

What kind of light is truly good for us? 💡

Last week at the Good Light Group Asia deLIGHTed talks in Guangzhou, China, our founder Dr. Amardeep M. Dugar took the stage to challenge the status quo of lighting design.
Presenting “Lighting Design for Wellness,” he introduced a powerful Salutogenic Framework—shifting the focus from simply preventing illness to actively promoting holistic health.

The big takeaways? We must look beyond basic lux levels to design for all dimensions of wellness:
🧠 Physical: Aligning indoor light with natural biological cycles and circadian rhythms.
🤝 Emotional: Using light to foster social connection and behavioural responses.
🌅 Spiritual: Creating natural patterns of light and shadow for spatial orientation.
📊 Intellectual: Optimising visual acuity through smart, precise automation.

The future of healthy light isn’t defined by a single trend—it’s shaped by rigorous science and cross-industry collaboration. Let’s keep moving from evidence to action! 🚀

A historic milestone for global lighting standards! 🌍💡

We are incredibly proud to share that our founder, Dr. Amardeep M. Dugar, acting as Board Director & Chair of the Global Development Committee for the Illuminating Engineering Society officially signed a strategic MoU with the Global Lighting Procurement Federation (GLPF) at the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2026! 🇨🇳✨

This landmark agreement paves the way for the future IES Greater China Section.
Speaking at the 13th China LED Innovation Conference, Dr. Dugar highlighted a major industry shift: “The conversation has permanently shifted from mere quantity to exceptional quality.”

The IES is dedicated to building technical bridges rather than barriers, moving from just “Made in China” to “Discovered in China, Validated by Science, and Celebrated Worldwide.”

Congratulations to Dr. Dugar and the GLPF leadership team for taking this giant leap forward! 🙌

Workshop - Light becomes powerful when knowledge is shared. ✨ 12 Workshops. Countless sparks of learning. ✨

The 12th IALD India Light Workshop, facilitated by , unfolded at Indubhai Parekh School of Architecture (IPSA), Rajkot - creating an immersive learning environment where students explored light beyond theory and into experience.
IPSA stands at the forefront of architectural education in Saurashtra—shaping design thinking and empowering future architects through an inspiring learning environment. IALD India Light Workshops create a collaborative platform where students and professionals explore the art and science of lighting—blending hands-on learning, creative freedom, and real-world design thinking across cities in India. The 12th IALD Light Workshop at IPSA empowered students to explore architectural lighting through hands-on learning and creative collaboration. Proud to be part of a journey shaping lighting design across India.
