Predictable Revenue - Consistent Sales Engine Framework
The typical boardroom question "Can we trust next quarter's forecast?". The answer ..Yes.. seem to come out of confidence than science. This is one question that summarizes one of the biggest challenges facing growing businesses today. As discussed earlier, most of the colourful graphical sales organizations comes out of CRM platforms. Dashboards, pipeline reports. Yet quarter after quarter, many of the sales organizations still miss their revenue targets.
Not because forecasting is broken but forecasting has been expected to do a job it was never designed to do.. Forecasting can measure but cannot engineer or improve Revenue accuracy. For Organizations to get a predictable revenue I developed the Scovelo Consistent Engine Framework™. It is a leadership framework that helps organizations understand where revenue actually comes from.
The Biggest Misunderstanding About Consistent Revenue
Ask most CEOs what creates predictable and consistent revenue are because they belive they have a stronger sales team, leads, better CRM, accurate forecasting to name a few. However, these may not be sufficient. Consistency can never be created by improving isolated activities. All the customer facing departments systems must be aligned.
Consistency should be built long before revenue appears
It begins with identifying the Business capabilities, Industries to focus, ICP, Differentiation, Consistency in all stages of sales process and average scale size of customers to name a few.
Introducing the ScoVelo Predictable Revenue Framework™
Over the years, I have found it useful to simplify predictable revenue into six interconnected capabilities.
Think of them as six gears inside the same commercial machine. All the gears should move cohesively and even if one gear malfunctions, the entire machine will collapse. Predictable revenue becomes a natural outcome. Let us discuss one after the other.
The ScoVelo Consistent Sales Engine™ Framework
This is an integrated operating system that aligns strategy, demand generation, sales ex*****on, sales management, operations, and continuous improvement into one. A repeatable engine that consistently creates outreach, qualified opportunities, infuses science in the sales process, assists in customer acquisition, and delivers scalable revenue growth.
The emphasis is on building a system rather than depending on individual sales heroics.
The six pillars are as follows:
Revenue Strategy
Revenue Strategy defines where the organization will compete and how it intends to win. It encompasses building the Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) that has the target industries, customer size, titles to go after. This should also include positioning, value proposition, pricing strategy, and market differentiation. A clear strategy ensures that every sales and marketing activity is aligned towards focussing on the fastest path to closure on a smaller size of customers than chasing every available opportunity hoping something will click.
Demand Generation
Demand Generation creates a consistent flow of Marketing Qualified Leads coming through multiple channels such as outbound prospecting, inbound marketing, thought leadership, referrals, partner ecosystems and events to name a few. This should be to focus on the right segments and pe*****te like a sniper rather than do a spray and pray approach with a machine gun. Any lead outside of MQL should not make it to the pipe.
Sales Ex*****on
Sales Ex*****on puts science into how the MQLs are converted into customers. Every salesperson should follow the standard documented structured process. This should includes qualification, discovery, positioning the solutions, value proposition, stakeholder mapping, proposal delivery, negotiation and scaling customer revenue. The goal of the consistent sale engine framework is to reduce variation in ex*****on, improve conversion rates, and make success repeatable across the entire sales organization.
Sales Management
Sales Management transforms managers into performance architects. They effectively do a combination of coaching, pipeline governance, deal reviews, forecasting discipline, and continuously improve sales ex*****on. Instead of reacting to missed targets, they systematically remove bottlenecks and increase the throughput of the entire sales organization.
Revenue Operations
Revenue Operations is the infrastructure that enables the sales engine to scale efficiently. This is achieved through process standardization, automation, dashboards and forecasting. This ensures that the leadership decisions are based on reliable information rather than assumptions.
Continuous Improvement
Markets, customer expectations, competitors, and technology constantly change. A sales process should also evolve accordingly. Constant analysis like customer feedback, win-loss analysis, objection handling, competitive intelligence, conversion metricsare a few that will be handled by the sales engine. Every learning is documented, institutionalized, and incorporated back into the system, creating a culture of continuous commercial excellence.
What could be the outcome of the sales engine
A well-designed Consistent Sales Engine not only improves the sales performance but also transforms how the organization creates revenue. The outcomes of a successful implementation are:
Consistent pipeline of MQL
Higher conversion rates
Reduced founder dependency
Accurate forecasting
Consistent Revenue Growth.
Scalable Commercial Organization
Conclusion
The companies admired for their consistency in sales are not the ones with the most talented salespeople, CRM, Technology. They are the ones with an integrated revenue system. They are the future of commercial leadership that engineers predictable revenue.
