National Handloom Day 2026

On 7 August 2026, National Handloom Day was celebrated by Nenterprise–Chizami Weaves and North East Network in collaboration with Li Cheh Kro Weavers Producers Co. Ltd. (LCK) at Hope Hall, NEN Resource Centre, Chizami, under the theme “Our Heritage, Our Future: Weaving Traditions That Sustain Tomorrow.”

A total of 144 weavers from 18 villages participated in the programme.

Guest Speaker Madam Mhalo Humtsoe, ADC Pfutsero, emphasized that “every weaving design and pattern carries the history, identity, and stories of a community.” She encouraged participants to preserve indigenous traditions while embracing new skills, techniques, and technology.

The programme celebrated our rich weaving heritage through a textile exhibitions, a documentary screening on the three-day weaving and craft workshop, folk song performances, and experience-sharing by two weavers. The Top 10 highest-earning weavers were honoured for their dedication and achievements, along with two women weavers recognized for their continued commitment. A special tribute was also paid to one of our senior weavers, now in her 70s, who is retiring from weaving due to health reasons after many years of dedicated service and craftsmanship. The winners of the Weaving and Design Competition were also felicitated for their creativity and excellence.

The celebration further included three awareness sessions conducted in collaboration with Sakhi One Stop Centre (OSC) and Shakti Sadan, Phek:

1. Legal Aspects of Child Rights and Protection: POCSO Act and Prevention of Early Child Marriage.
2. Awareness on Sakhi One Stop Centre Services and Women Helpline 181.
3. Shakti Sadan Services: An Integrated Relief and Rehabilitation Centre for Women in Difficult Circumstances.

The sessions highlighted the importance of protecting children's rights, preventing gender-based violence, promoting access to support services, and strengthening community awareness on rehabilitation and protection mechanisms available for women and children.

Weaving & Bamboo Craft Workshop
Commemorating National Handloom Day

From 4th–6th August 2026, Nenterprise and NEN, in collaboration with Li Cheh Kro Weaver's Producer Company, organized a 3-day Weaving & Bamboo Craft Workshop across 12 villages, with 170 children and youth participating.

The workshop provided a wonderful opportunity for young people to learn and experience traditional weaving and bamboo craft skills passed down by our elders. These skills are not only an important part of our cultural heritage but also help nurture creativity, confidence, and self-reliance.

As we celebrate National Handloom Day, we are reminded that education goes beyond the classroom. By passing on traditional knowledge and practical skills to the younger generation, we can preserve our heritage while creating opportunities for a more sustainable future.

Weavers' Meeting cm Wages Payment | 📍Middle Khomi

On 28th July, a Weavers' Meeting cm Wages Payment was held at Middle Khomi, bringing together weavers from Upper Khomi, Middle Khomi, and Lower Khomi. A total of 37 weavers' attended the meeting.

The meeting covered discussions on revised wages, the previous year's earnings, the number of active weavers, and the importance of quality control.
It also provided a platform for sharing updates and strengthening coordination among the weavers.

Product & Design Development Training | Kikruma Village (22–24 July 2026)

A three-day Product and Design Development Training was successfully conducted at Kikruma Village with 20 weavers—15 from Kikruma Village and 5 from North Kikruma. The participants received hands-on training on weaving Runner Mat Sets, enhancing their skills in design and quality production.

The Training concluded with a Weavers' Meeting on 24 July, where discussions were held on quality control measures, revised wages, previous year's earnings and the challenges faced by the weavers.

Personal Safety Education And Menstrual Health Awareness 🌸

Nenterprise–Chizami Weaves, organised Personal Safety Education And Menstrual Health Awareness in collaboration with the E.Y.P. Baptist Churches, Children's Ministry, on 19th July 2026 at the Community Hall, Enhulumi Village.

A total of 29 participants attended the Awareness Programme.

The first session on Personal Safety Education was led by Tshenyilou Chirhah, NEN, followed by the second session on Menstrual Health by Tshewau L. Mero, GNM.

Together, the sessions encouraged participants to stay informed, safe, healthy, and confident.

The programme concluded with the distribution of sanitary pads to adolescent girls.

Personal Safety Education & Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Programme

On 12 July 2026, Nenterprise–Chizami Weaves, in collaboration with the Children's Department, CTBC, organized a Personal Safety Education & Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Programme at Chizami Town Baptist Church.

A total of 52 participants attended the programme.

The first session, led by Tshenyilou Chirhah, NEN, focused on personal safety education through interactive activities, covering safe and unsafe touch and the 5 Safety Rules.

The second session was conducted by Tshewau L. Mero, GNM, CHC Chizami, who spoke on menstrual health and hygiene, the menstrual cycle, menstrual hygiene practices, PMS, and healthy ways to manage menstruation.

The programme concluded with the distribution of sanitary pads to the participants.

A glimpse from our Weavers' Meeting cm Yarn Distribution and Weavers' Wages Payment held on 8 July 2025 at Sakraba Village.
A total of 20 weavers attended the meeting, where we discussed the revised weaving wages, quality control measures, and reflected on the previous financial year's earnings. The session also provided an opportunity for the weavers to openly share the challenges they face, encouraging meaningful discussions and collective solutions.
Through every meeting, we continue to strengthen our partnership with our weavers and celebrate the dedication and skill that keep our handloom tradition alive.
Together, we weave not only textiles but stronger communities.
