🎉 Congratulations to ISDM on the Report Launch of "Navigating Outcomes-Based Financing in India: Perceptions of the Not-For-Profits" 🎉

We are thrilled to celebrate the launch of ISDM's groundbreaking report, “Navigating Outcomes-Based Financing in India: Perceptions of the Not-for-Profits.” This research is a significant step towards enhancing the effectiveness and reach of outcome based financing (OBF) in the social sector. Some key insights from the survey:

🔴 83% of the Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) who participated in the survey showed positive interest in exploring OBF
🔴 NPOs with high annual budget (INR10 crore+) give the highest importance to the benefits and risks of OBF compared to the ones with lower budget. Important to note that NPOs with such high budget have the necessary absorptive capacity required for OBF and additional financing through OBF may help in scaling their interventions.
🔴 NPOs perceive the financial risks of “inadequate working capital” and the “risk of funding being stopped halfway, if outcomes are not achieved” as the primary risks of OBF.

This report was one of the key outputs of Parinaam, India's first-of-its-kind multi-stakeholder collaborative platform to unlock innovative finance for development by bringing together all ecosystem stakeholders — donors, investors, NGOs, social enterprises, academia, and government. We are also excited to share the highlights and resources from the Parinaam Summit held in December 2023.

Nitin Desai, in his recent business standard editorial, "5 Priorities for Next Government" outlines critical focus areas for the incoming government amidst the backdrop of ongoing elections in India. As the country navigates through this pivotal electoral period, Mr. Desai stresses the necessity of stimulating private consumption and corporate investment, noting their declining growth rates that have been impacting economic activity. He emphasizes the urgent need for creating productive jobs, particularly advocating for policies that support small and medium industries to help them scale up. Furthermore, substantial improvements in education, skills development, and healthcare are deemed crucial to prepare the labor force for emerging job markets and enhance productivity. Mr. Desai also highlights the importance of effective federalism to manage regional disparities and promote inclusive growth. Addressing income inequality and enforcing workers' rights are highlighted as essential for improving wages and the bargaining power of workers.

Overall, he advocates for a development strategy that goes beyond fulfilling election promises to tackle long-term economic and social challenges, pushing for a shift towards more dynamic and inclusive governance, especially critical at a time when India is deciding its future leadership and policy direction through these elections.

Recently, Kartik Desai, the CEO of Desai & Associates, met with a delegation from the Saudi Impact Investment Fellowship during their visit to India.

The Fellowship, an initiative between جامعة الملك سعود - King Saud University and the Centre for Non-Profit Sector Development under the Saudi Arabian Government, included participants from various Saudi entities such as the Ministry of Education, Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Riyadh Municipality, the University of Hail, as well as developmental consultancy firms, NGOs, capacity-building organizations, startups, non-profit organizations, and social enterprises. We hope this kind of collaboration leads to innovative solutions and fosters a strong network of partnerships that support sustainable development and capacity building across various fields.

We were delighted to host and showcase our work in the innovative finance space across the spectrum from impact investing to blended finance to ESG. We hope the exchange inspires greater strides in impact investing in Saudi Arabia and lays the groundwork for future collaborations between our two nations on how to unlock development finance to create a more inclusive society.
