Meet the 3 young Indians whose probing landed Google with a Rs 1,338 cr anti-trust fine

Probe against Google began in 2019, based on information submitted to Competition Commission of India by then research associates Umar Javeed & Sukarma Thapar & law student Aaqib Javeed.

The CCI — the national competition regulator — is responsible for promoting competition and preventing activities that have an appreciable adverse effect on market competition in India
The first fine  was for around Rs 136 crore in 2018 for abusing its dominant position in online search and web advertising. The latest amd third fine was for around Rs 936 crore, imposed on 25 October, for abuse of dominance in the app store market.

However, it was the second fine, of a whopping Rs 1,338 crore, that made news. While imposing the fine, CCI put forward ten measures for Google, including that Android device makers shouldn’t be forced to pre-install its services and that Google shall not restrict users from uninstalling of its pre-installed apps.

New scam in town: Gang uses FASTag to dupe people in Delhi with new credit cards

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has claimed to have busted a gang using FASTag to cheat people in the name of activating credit card services. The police said they have arrested three men and seized luxury vehicles and other SUVs from the possession of the accused.

According to the police, the accused cheated people of Rs 80 lakh in less than a month.

Ravindra Singh Yadav, Special Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), said, “The gang approached people who recently bought new credit cards. Mittal would create FASTag wallets while the other gang members would take the personal account details of the victim on the pretext of activating their credit card services or changing the limit of cards etc. Using personal details and OTPs, the accused linked the wallets to the bank account”.

Car owners have always been a target of miscreants and thieves who try to make easy money by stealing vehicles of unsuspecting owners. A few posts that went viral on social media recently inform us about a trick that is suddenly the choice of many vehicle lifters around the globe. The process these car-lifers use is pretty simple but most unsuspecting vehicle owners easily fall prey to it.

Once the driver starts the vehicle and moves in forward or reverse direction, the empty plastic bottle starts making loud sound. Of course, the driver is quick to hear the crushing sound of the plastic bottle and pulls over to check what’s wrong. As he’s prone to be quite startled, chances are he would leave the car turned on or at least leave the key inside the vehicle. As he inspects his car to find the source of the sound, the car-lifter, gets inside the vehicle and drives off
