Solar 101: What Is Solar InRoof?
In a traditional setup, solar panels sit on top of an existing roof. With InRoof, India's first integrated solar roof, the solar panels themselves become the primary roof, with no metal sheets needed. It can be built into a new building, replace an old metal-sheet roof, or be set up as a pergola on a terrace or unused ground space. It works for everything from carports and cafés to large factory roofs.
Panels installed over metal sheets heat up and lose efficiency. InRoof removes the sheets and allows free air circulation, making it 10–15% more efficient than traditional installations. It also needs just 60–65 sq. ft. per kW, compared to 90–110 sq. ft. for regular rooftop solar. Since it works as the main roof, it has a double layer of leak protection built to withstand the heaviest rainfall.
InRoof also creates a usable space underneath and has a seamless look that can be adapted to all roof styles. It saves the cost of replacing an old roof before going solar and, by removing sheet or asbestos roofing, helps cut carbon emissions. Brands like B.L. Agro (745 kW, Bareilly) and Ashirvad Pipes (91 kW, Bengaluru) have chosen InRoof for their facilities.
