Emergency management and security personnel
Emergencies can happen at any time - most times without any warning. While most of us do not want to imagine ourselves or our loved ones in any emergency situation, it is always better to be prepared to handle any accidents, disasters or any other kind of emergencies.
Although being prepared for any emergency at individual level is important, security personnels are especially trained to handle multiple disaster scenarios. Most professionals are aware of the various issues and trends in emergency and disaster management to maintain the highest level of emergency preparedness possible.
With new threats emerging each day, emergency management professionals in the public and private sectors look for new, innovative methods to deal with them; draw on lessons from past events; and identify emergency management trends to help prepare for future disasters.
All security professionals are equipped to deal with five areas to ensure the security of people and assets, which are prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery. The professionals play extensive roles in maintaining secure physical and online environments before, during and after attacks.
During any physical disaster, security creates and identifies a building’s evacuation routes. They assist in educating residents or employees about what to do when leaving the building. Also, planning for an emergency requires knowing how to secure areas of the building quickly. For example, during an active shooter event, locking down parts of the premises could limit the perpetrator’s access to potential victims.
Similarly, the security guards are well-trained to keep an eye on all the visitors to a building - commercial or residential - with the help of the newage technology. Today’s security cameras are increasingly high-tech. A physical security specialist could oversee things like a camera’s position and adequate lighting around it. A cybersecurity expert could then update the passwords used to review recent footage or retrieve data from the cloud.
Additionally, security professionals generally have a good command on communicating to residents or employees before, during and after any emergency situation. Communication is crucial during each of these elements. Security professionals can also play instrumental roles in helping people go through mock scenarios that prepare them for true emergencies.
At ANG Secure, we have trained all our guards to respond to any kind of emergency situation.
