At the SPA, New Delhi B.Arch Thesis Exhibition. Meeting friends, Faculty and past students.

And presenting some our work, as Alumnus of the School and Department!

Still need to hone the short format presentation.

Note to self - for clarity of thought, better flow and not having “missed point” regret , write a script or outline.

The Blue Bells International Concept Proposal.

Our second proposal for a school in the NCR.

Bringing in principals of Sustainability, Reuse, Bioclimatic Design.

The building was to use bricks salvaged from the dismantling of the older school building - both as symbolic and physical continuity of the spirit of vision that guides education at Delhi’s older and well known schools.

Aging buildings, larger numbers, better and new age teaching methodologies and above all safety and accessibility are issues educational spaces are constantly grappling with.

How do you address these while still creating spaces that are inspiring, wholesome and nurturing?

The design was bridge between the old and new, a double skin, bioclimatic facade to control heat gains, create softness and also create a green space.

The older buildings language of brick and arches informed the lower floors closer to the ground.

And an activated courtyard with auditorium and activity spaces became the centre of the proposal.

School environments are challenges and also learning opportunities at the same time.

We are sad this one will not see the light of day.

Maybe third time is the charm!

Architecture of Sanctuary

Our idea has never been to command a site, or announce our domination, or make a statement of having arrived.

Architecture should take you in. And make you feel at home, not an exhibit to be curated and plastered across the pages of glossy magazines that no one reads, and are “casually” arranged on a coffee table for the perfect photograph.

A place where you can drop the pretence of perfection for an audience that has no space for you.

A place where your dog or cat or lizard can sit on the couch by the window and watch the sun as it paints the view a different hue through the afternoon.

Where your coffee or tea or whiskey tastes just a little more special, and conversations are unhurried.

And for a while you can forget the world.

That is the kind of sanctuary we wish for you.

Talking about ideas of “development” , sustainability, inclusivity, social and environmental responsibility as ideas that inform and enable practice, and a vision of more empathetic world.

Ashish Ganju and Narendra Dengle’s The Discovery of Architecture, may be a very good introduction into a more nuances, honest and actionable discourse on sustainability and built environments especially in our contexts.

I would not have this view or understanding without the guidance and learning from Ashish Ganju and the long association with his work.

We are Drooling over this Corner!

It’s simplicity.

It’s rawness.

It’s honesty.

The expressiveness of human making.

The perfect imperfection.

Slow, carefully crafted, like good things have always been.

It brings ua so much joy.

We are glad clients have faith and share the joy this kind of work brings to all everyone, the craftsmen, the masons, and us.

The Architecture of Sanctuary.

Possibly the best way to describe what we do!

Not minimal not ostentation not unnecessary.

Enough. So you feel at home, happy and rested.

A place you come back to, filled with love, life, memories and hope.

Architecture is about hope! And dreaming.

That Food Post!

Thup - a traditional Bhutanese Dish, is a watery porridge made with red rice, can be made with vegetables too, but generally with dried meat. Mildly favoured with ginger and garlic and chilli.

Grateful to have family who will carry, these precious gifts of food and belonging from Bhutan when they travel through the city.
