And now the story of design...
It all began with a quest - What should the landscape design for Delhi's domestic airport symbolically base itself on.
The answer lay in the common denominator that defined Delhi through its cultural history - it's unique geographical setting - A well defined land closed in by the river and the ridge on two sides.
In addition, the design language must offer dynamism and flamboyance, while evoking the myriad emotions associated with travel. It must offer a window to luxury and lifestyle, while weaving nature into the terminal in a stylized form.
The architectural vocabulary and geometry of landscape organisation was developed by a careful study of sinuous contours of the Aravalis and the Yamuna flood plains. Everything followed from thereon! The design manifested into metaphors that stood for the woods, the meandering river, mountain lakes, boulders, undulating meadows and the quintessential chabutra under a tree.
