A lot has been written about No-shows. But the problem persists and is now starting to impact bottom line of Placement Consultants severely. In an unpredictable business that the Placement Consultants operate, delays, loss opportunity to other Consultant or position going on hold causes indirect impact of 50% of the person-hours spent on the mandate. This also means that almost 20 to 30% margin wiped-off from a successful closure!
The Client on the other hand does not want to listen to this excuse anymore, as if they think that because they would be paying the Consultant hiring fees, he better not have no-shows.
The usual solutions to this problem is to build good relationship with the Candidates so that they are own in their communication with the recruiter. However, statistics show, it is irrespective of relationship equation, the Candidates have chosen to seek their convenience first before even paying any heed to the Recruiter’s problem.
While there are some very radical views that suggest establishing an independent body where defaults are listed and other Consultants/Companies could refer to such lists when inviting such listed Candidates for interview, the practicality of such approach needs to be carefully studied. On the other hand, there are systems; like the notice we see on the back of a Private Taxi Cars (specially cars rented by BPO companies) where anyone can have the right to lodge a complaint on a given phone number, if the Car driver is not following rules. A similar approach may have to be seriously looked at by Independent HR bodies to stop or minimize this menace.
Till then, we just gotta continue to do our Karma, without expecting the Fruits to come and will still be happy!
