A Technical write-up published in Asian Poultry & Asian Feed magazines
Nature is an integral part of man’s growth and development. For as long as we can remember, man has exploited natural resources for creating economic, cultural and historic benefits for himself. Man continues to use natural resources as one of the most essential ingredients in the manufacturing process even today. This fact is more appropriate to the feed industry as feed milling is a process industry.
Conclusion
Numerous studies over the years have indicated that environmental conditions play a vital role in moisture imbalance in the feed industry. According to feed industry survey reports, the moisture variation ranges from 2.50% shrinkage to 1.09% gain of feed due to climate variations. This moisture loss cannot be eliminated completely but can be minimized. In order to effectively control moisture loss, the process owners must understand the climate zone of the feed mills. Each feed mill location is subject to unique climate conditions during a year and one has to adjust the milling procedures according to EMC (Equilibrium Moisture Content).
Fortunately, today we have modern techniques and tools to identify these challenges and to fine tune the milling process to allow for effective and profitable operations.
