The different layers of a Thermal Transfer Ribbon
BACK PROTECTION
It protects the base PET film and the thermal print head, reduces static electricity issues and improves ribbon passage in the printer.
PET BASE FILM
The base film is used for the ink and back layer coating. It allows the heat transfer from the thermal head to the ink.
RELEASE LAYER
It helps the ink to be removed from the base film even at low temperature.
INK LAYER
Made of wax, wax/resin, or resin, this layer is transferred to the receiving material during the printing. It generates the image. Its composition determines the heat, abrasion and solvents resistance properties of the ribbon.

PRECAUTIONS FOR THERMAL PRINT-HEADS
(1)Substrate temperature should not exceed the maximum limit when continuously printing at a high duty to avoid breakdown of heater elements.
(2)Paper residue on heater line should be removed with ethanol or IPA to avoid corrosion.
(3)Do not touch the heater line surface with bare hand to avoid corrosion.
(4)Please use a thermal paper and an ink-ribbon that are free from Na+, K+, and CI- ions and of which reliability is fully evaluated to avoid corrosion.
(5)Heater surface should be free from any condensation to avoid corrosion. In case condensation is found, please turn off the VH until condensation evaporates.
