When I was in class XI, there was a thought recitation competition announced in my school. I also submitted my name from my house.

My house teacher asked me to seek guidance from a girl from another section who was also in my house.

She was called the Queen of Public Speaking in our school so I was a little apprehensive in seeking guidance from her. I thought she might carry a lot of attitude.

But, she was very courteous and told me the right way to recite the thought.

She said, “Everyone starts with- Good morning. I am from this house and this is my thought. You got to start with a powerful sentence in a captivating way.”

She demonstrated the way I was supposed to recite the thought.

Next day, I recited the thought and I was the second winner. I was very happy.

Now that I look back, I realise what that girl did. She taught me the most important lesson of public speaking in the simplest form.

Hook the audience right in the beginning.

I am really thankful to Divya Sengar for being my first teacher in Public Speaking.
