CESD leverages its role of all-inclusive ecosystem player, partnering industry, government, and civil society. It has been a pioneer of environment management systems, biodiversity mapping, sustainability reporting, integrated reporting, and social & natural capital valuation in India, thus upgrading business in India to sustainable competitiveness. With three locations in India, CESD operates across the country and has also been active in parts of South and South East Asia, Middle East, and Africa. It has held institutional partnerships and memberships of the United Nations Global Compact, Global Reporting Initiative, International Integrated Reporting Council, Carbon Disclosure Project, development agencies of Canada, the USA, the UK, and Germany.

In this thought-leadership article, Sanjiv Puri, Past President, Confederation of Indian Industry, Chair, CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development, and Chairman & Managing Director, ITC Limited, outlines the priorities businesses must address to accelerate the transition.

He calls for greater attention to climate adaptation alongside decarbonisation. He also makes the case for stronger nature-based solutions, with a focus on climate-smart agriculture, water stewardship, biodiversity conservation and soil health. On circularity, he stresses the need to move faster through innovation in materials, design, reuse and recycling.

Sustainability transition will depend on the strength of the systems behind it.

At the 21st CII Global Sustainability Summit, “Accelerating India's Sustainability Transition: Building the Systems for Competitive Growth” will bring into focus the policy, finance and industry architecture needed to strengthen India’s competitiveness and long-term resilience. 🌱
