Sometimes, the reason you lose a job has nothing to do with your skills, interview performance, or experience. It’s simply because you didn’t check the basics.
A candidate came to our office regularly for 15 days to complete all the rounds for a position. After successfully clearing three rounds, he finally got the call every candidate waits for — “Congratulations, you’ve been selected!”
But then came the unexpected part.
He asked the HR, “Where is the office located?”
HR told him the location. He put the phone down, opened Google Maps, checked the distance… and called back.
“I’m sorry, I won’t be accepting the offer. It’s 2 hours from my house.”
The recruiter was shocked.
When asked why he hadn’t checked earlier, his answer was even more surprising: “I thought it was only 30 minutes away when I applied.”
15 days. 3 rounds. Selected. And the offer was rejected because the location wasn’t checked before applying.
The lesson? Before you apply for a job, don’t just look at the salary and designation. Check the job location, commute, work timings, role and expectations too. Make sure the opportunity actually works for you before investing your time — and the company’s time.
