As designers and allied professionals, your work speaks for itself. Streets are the primary unit in a city - the most democratic spaces we build.

Despite this, most Indian streets are either not designed, and when they are ‘planned’ the primary user is always a car, and not people. Footpaths shrink, shade disappears, and the people who are eyes and ears of the street - vendors, the elderly, and children often get pushed to the margins.

At Epistle, we believe city-making is fundamentally about people, not traffic flow. A well-designed street can lower urban heat, support local livelihoods, and make daily life safer and more dignified for everyone who uses it, not just those who can afford a car.

Indian Streets Reimagined is a design competition by GRIHA Council and the Council of Architecture that’s asking exactly this question: what if we designed streets as people-first infrastructure?

We curated the Circle Talks at Design POV around a simple idea: what if design conversations moved beyond projects and portfolios to explore the invisible forces that shape design and how we experience it?

Bringing together leading voices from architecture, photography, hospitality, technology, fashion and art, the Design POV Circle programme looked at design through a more human lens, exploring how memory, emotion, culture and perception influence what we create.

In this incisive piece, Hindustan Times metro features editor Manoj Sharma examines the rise of “absurd” urban projects — flyovers that narrow without warning, overbridges that cut too close to homes and the systemic gaps in planning, review, and oversight that let them get approved in the first place.

Glad this crucial conversation is being explored through such careful, thoughtful reporting.

A road can be imagined as a living body—bleeding, scarred, and demanding care. This powerful metaphor lies at the heart of Sydney Coldren’s winning essay, “A Beating and Bleeding Heart: Corporeal Metaphors and the Politics of Care in Bogotá, Colombia,” which won the “Make a Case” category at Epistle Writing Prize 2025 and has now been published on ArchDaily — made possible through our benefits program that gives winners a chance to be featured on leading digital platforms.

Through the story of Bogotá’s La Carrera Séptima (Seventh Avenue), Coldren explores how cities are often described as living bodies in need of healing. She argues that this language of “care” has frequently been used to justify interventions that prioritise control over the people who use these spaces, while overlooking the everyday communities and informal networks that keep the city alive.

The easiest thing to do with an old building is to tear it down — but a quieter counter-movement is proving otherwise.

In this , Editorial Strategist, Shahzeb Athar (Shahzeb Athar) pens a story for India Today HOME titled “Old Walls, New Lives”, speaking with Anjali Mangalgiri of Grounded (Grounded Design Studio), Natasha Kumar & Abhijit Sawant of Studio Tilt (Studio Tilt), groupDCA (groupDCA) and RENESĀ Architecture Studio (RENESĀ Architecture Studio) on how four forgotten structures across Goa and Gurgaon were given a second life instead of being demolished.

Research is only as powerful as its ability to reach the people who can act on it. That was the challenge UN-Habitat India brought to us.

We restructured a complex body of work into a multi-format communications strategy built to reach municipal officials and general audiences alike, each in the language and format that would actually land.

For us at epistle, inspiration and ideas can be found anywhere - sometimes even in a well-crafted cocktail.
Recently, our Director Falguni Budhraja () explored the ‘Whisky Experiments’ with Johnnie Walker Black Label for The Bar in Bengaluru. But rather than a traditional tasting, it became a study in creation.

From the aromatic layering of liquor choices and ingredients to the technical craft of achieving the right taste notes, the process of making a cocktail mirrors the rigour we bring to the built environment. It’s a reminder that whether we are shaping a narrative, a city, or a cocktail, the fundamentals of creation and attention to detail remain the same.

The journey was enriched by conversations and a bar crawl led by Riddhi Paul () at Bar Spirit Forward (), Muro (.bangalore), and Dali & Gala (). The visionary teams behind the bars are dismantling the status quo, which mirrors the innovation we strive for at Epistle.
