Exactly one year ago, “Memoirs of a CA – Aap Toh CA Hain” was launched.

It feels as though it happened only yesterday.

Over the past year, I have often been asked, “Why did you write this book?”

My answer has always been simple—it was never meant to be just an autobiography. It was my attempt to leave behind a small legacy of experiences, values, mistakes, victories, disappointments, relationships, and lessons learnt over a lifetime. If even one reader found courage, hope, or inspiration in its pages, I believe the effort was worthwhile.

Today, as I look back, I do so with immense gratitude and a touch of emotion.

I remember the warmth of everyone who took time out to attend the launch. Your presence transformed the occasion from a book launch into a celebration of friendship, affection, and encouragement. Those memories remain close to my heart.

To every reader who chose to pick up the book, thank you. Whether you read it in one sitting or over several weeks, whether you sent me a heartfelt message, called me, gifted it to a friend, or simply smiled and said, “I enjoyed it,” please know that every word of appreciation reached my heart.

This book carries many chapters of my life—but in truth, it also carries a little part of each one of you. None of us walks our journey alone. Every teacher, client, colleague, friend, family member, and well-wisher leaves an imprint on our lives. This book is as much yours as it is mine.

As I turn this first anniversary page, I do so with folded hands and a grateful heart.

Thank you for believing in me, encouraging me, and walking beside me—not just as readers, but as fellow travellers in this incredible journey called life.

The book may have completed one year, but its journey continues every time someone opens its pages.

Thank you for making “Memoirs of a CA – Aap Toh CA Hain” a part of your life.

With love, humility, and heartfelt gratitude,

Sanjivv Shiv Kapoor

Financial Year-End Advisory | 31st March 2026

As we approach the close of Financial Year 2025–26, it is important to recognise that year-end is not merely a compliance milestone, but a strategic opportunity to optimise tax positions, strengthen financial reporting, and avoid future disputes or inefficiencies.

A timely and well-considered review before 31st March can result in meaningful tax savings, better cash flow management, and smoother assessments.

Below is a structured guidance note for your immediate consideration:

---

1. Tax Planning & Deductions
The window for claiming deductions closes on 31st March. Ensure:
• Investments under Section 80C (LIC, PPF, ELSS, NSC, housing loan principal, tuition fees) are completed
• Additional deduction of ₹50,000 under Section 80CCD(1B) (NPS) is utilised where relevant
• Health insurance premiums (Section 80D) are paid
• Donations (80G), if any, are properly documented

A last-minute but informed allocation can still yield efficient tax outcomes.

---

2. Capital Gains & Wealth Structuring
Review all transactions involving property, securities, and mutual funds:
• Assess realised and unrealised gains/losses
• Consider tax harvesting strategies where beneficial
• Evaluate reinvestment options under Sections 54, 54F, 54EC
• Ensure proper documentation of cost, indexation, and holding period

Strategic positioning here can significantly alter the effective tax liability.

---

3. Business & Professional Considerations
For business owners and professionals, year-end discipline is critical:
• Ensure all revenue and expenses up to 31st March are recorded
• Review outstanding receivables/payables and provisioning requirements
• Evaluate allowability of expenses (especially cash payments, related party transactions)
• Verify TDS/TCS compliance and identify any short deductions
• Assess inventory valuation and closing stock

Well-maintained books at year-end reduce audit exposure and improve financial credibility.

---

4. Tax Liability & Cash Flow Alignment
• Review total income and tax liability for the year
• Discharge any pending advance tax / self-assessment tax
• Avoid interest implications under Sections 234B and 234C

A proactive approach ensures there are no surprises at the time of return filing.

---

5. GST & Indirect Tax Alignment
• Reconcile turnover declared in GST returns with books of accounts
• Match GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, and e-way bill data
• Verify Input Tax Credit (ITC) eligibility and reversals, if any
• Ensure compliance with documentation and invoicing norms

Consistency across records is essential to mitigate future notices and litigation.

---

6. Documentation & Audit Preparedness
• Compile investment proofs, bank statements, and loan certificates
• Ensure agreements, invoices, and supporting documents are in order
• Evaluate applicability of tax audit based on turnover thresholds
• Cross-check PAN–Aadhaar linkage and other regulatory requirements

Robust documentation today prevents avoidable complications tomorrow.

---

7. A Strategic Perspective
Beyond compliance, this is also the right time to:
• Review overall financial structure and tax efficiency
• Plan distributions, remuneration, or restructuring where relevant
• Align personal and business financial goals for the coming year

---

In Closing

The financial year-end is less about last-minute action and more about informed decision-making. Even a few well-timed steps can materially improve outcomes.

Warm regards,
CA Sanjivv Shiv Kapoor
