TARA Projects, India TARA is a member of World Fair Trade Organisation, WFTO-Asia, Fair Trade Forum India and Emmaus International.

TARA’s mission is to practice fairness in its production and trading activities for the development of the grassroots. For over forty years TARA Projects has been working to fight exploitation, poverty, illiteracy and to protect the rights of marginalised communities. The organisation draws its inspiration from the basic principles of Fair Trade and the protection of fundamental rights. TARA is ac

tively engaged in providing support to grassroots producers and underprivileged sections of society in the production and marketing of handicrafts. Using revenues generated by the sale of handcrafted products TARA supports a number of community development projects, such as health programmes, micro credit schemes, learning centres for children, capacity building, and adult literacy programmes. The resulting employability and enhanced earning capacity, impacts the lives of thousands of young people and adults, and helps keep children in education, reducing the prevalence of child labour. TARA’s commitment to the environment includes reforestation projects and rainwater harvesting initiatives to address the extreme demand for water in many regions of India. Tara has recently initiated an eco-tourism project. TARA has become a leading voice in campaigns against child labour, illiteracy, and unfair trading practices. TARA’s philosophy is, and always has been, to bring about positive change and economic justice and seeks to consolidate and extend this work by seeking new opportunities and new trading partners.

A true visionary, our inspiration, our strength, someone who saw far beyond his time. When silence was the norm, he chose courage. When injustice was accepted, he chose to challenge it. He stood firmly against the deep-rooted inequities of society, daring to speak when few had the will to do so.
He fought for the dignity and rights of the marginalized, laying the very foundation upon which Tara and Fair Trade stand today. Every step we take forward is guided by the path he carved with conviction, compassion and belief in justice.
Though many years have passed since his departure, his presence is deeply felt in our work, our values and our purpose. We miss his guidance, his vision and his strength more than words can express. We pray that wherever his journey has taken him beyond this life, he is at peace, knowing that his legacy lives on through all of us, every single day.

To mark this day, we celebrated with the real changemakers of tomorrow — children. 👧👦
They created handmade posters, walked through their neighborhoods with banners aad learned about importance of soil. Their energy and curiosity turned heads and tried to open the minds about the urgency of protecting our soil.📣

It is wonderful to see the portrait of our colleague Kcoko in Oxfam-Magasins Du Monde's 2025 Awareness Campaign adhering to the Fair Trade Principle 6, on the role of women in the Fair Trade Movement.
We thank and truly appreciate for sharing it with us. It is an honor for Kcoko and Tara as an organisation to be featured across different social media platforms for a topic like Gender Equality and important roles women play in the world of Fair Trade and otherwise.
