DILIKA SANDALWOOD(DKS)
Dilika sandalwood is a registered business organisation for building wealth with investors through sandalwood cultivation and also contribute to climate change. Sandalwood an ever green tree is the costliest, most precious wood in India and second
costliest wood in the world. The aroma of the oil and the wood is reverred by people belonging to three major religious groups in the world – Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam. Sandalwood oil is
one of the most highly priced items in the essential oil trade. In the international it is sold for more than Rs. four lakhs per kg whereas in India it is more than Rs. one lakh. The United States
and France are the two largest importers of Indian sandalwood oil. The study conducted by DKS found that North East Climatic condition is very much suitable for its cultivation. Ajmal group of
companies, a multimillionaire company from Hojai Assam has cultivated these trees on a large scale about 20 years ago in Assam, Manipur and Mizoram. The trees have grown very well and they are now harvesting.

The sandalwood when cut vertically we can see a yellow or brownish layer inside which is called the heartwood. This heartwood is chip and distilled to produce sandalwood oil and used extensively in perfumery, cosmetics, aromatherapy and pharmaceutical industry. The other part of the wood is used for producing agarbattis.
IS IT LEGAL TO GROW /SELL SANDALWOOD?
Sandalwood was the property of the Government of India till 2000. But this policy was defeated in the Karnataka High Court in 2001 and the word “GO” to cultivate was inserted which states that the sandalwood tree(s) grown in a specific area is the property of the land owner.
COLLECTIVE FARMING OF SANDALWOOD TREES:
DKS is inviting well wishers, economically and environmental concious citizens of the North East People for collective farming. In this Venture, DKS will cultivate the sandalwood trees in its own land at Zandi Village, Peren District, Nagaland and the cost of farming and management for 15 years is about Rs. 3000 which will be contributed by the investors. At the end of the fifteenth year when the trees are matured for harvest, they will be sold in the open market and the amount from the sale will be shared between the investors and the DKS equally. The farm will be insured till it is harvested.
DEMAND AND SUPPLY:
As of date the requirement of sandalwood in the world is 80,000 hectares of cultivation and the current demand is increasing by 18% every year.
Any information on sandalwood cultivation is most welcome.
