Manipur Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi Says "The Racial Attacks Of North-East People In Delhi is Not A Serious Crime"

When asked about the recent racial attacks of northeast people in Delhi, this is what he replied:
" .. yes, yes, yes .. yeah of course, here and there......a mission, commission may took place ..Beaten, assault...this is not a serious crime...because it may can happen sometimes.. hein nah? ...even within the families also...that is also should not be happened...but this is minor girls..this type of hein naa?..the r**e and all..these things..hein nah?..."

The leaders should be protecting their people but it is sad that we cannot rely on them anymore even despite the fact that the situation is deteriorating.

Infact, just recently on Sunday, The Khap panchayat in Munirka, south Delhi, at a meeting took a decision to force people from the northeast to leave the area.

Raise you voice for your brothers, for your sisters, for your mother, for your father, for yourselves and for our friends.

NEW DELHI: Home minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Tuesday ordered a CBI probe in the Nido Tania murder case. The 19-year-old from Arunachal Pradesh died a day after being beaten up with rods and sticks in Lajpat Nagar on January 29.

Once the agency gets the formal notification for investigation-likely by Wednesday-its sleuths will visit the crime spot to collect evidence with the help of forensics experts. CBI will also question Delhi Police officers who responded to the PCR call about the altercation between Tania and the accused to understand the exact sequence of events. Joint commissioner (southeastern range) Vivek Gogia is likely to be examined to see if there was any negligence on police's part, sources said.

The decision came on a day when Delhi Police informed the court that murder charges had been slapped on the four accused- Sunny, Farman, Sunder and Pawan- after the postmortem report revealed that Tania died of injuries to his head and face. At the time of arrest, they were charged under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

Shinde said he had ordered a CBI inquiry on a request from Tania's family. Nido Pavitra, Tania's father, and other close family members met Shinde for 15 minutes. "The home minister gave us a patient hearing. We also requested him to do the needful to ensure security of people from the northeast living in different parts of the country," said Pavitra, a Congress MLA in Arunachal Pradesh.

The family also met Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday to demand speedy justice for Tania and strict punishment for the culprits. They alleged police negligence in the case and also demanded stringent action against the guilty cops. "We have requested him to punish the people who are involved in killing my son. Number one is Delhi Police," said Pavitra.

Tania's mother said, "It's total discrimination and police negligence. Delhi Police forgot its duty; my son could have been saved".

The Delhi High Court Wednesday asked the police to file by Friday a fresh status report - along with the findings of the autopsy - on the death of a student from Arunachal Pradesh.

A division bench of Chief Justice N.V. Ramana and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw refused to accept the status report filed by Delhi Police and asked it to file the report with post-mortem report and posted the matter for Friday.

"If in Delhi, the capital of the country, you are unable to give post-mortem report in 15 days, even in a fast-track case like this, what will happen to (other) cases. We can only say that your infrastructure is at a primitive stage," said the bench.

The court's remark came after Delhi Police counsel Dayan Krishnan told the bench that the report which was submitted to court does not contain the post-mortem report of Nido Tania, who was beaten up by shopkeepers at Lajpat Nagar market here. He died later.

"How many days usually post-mortem report take to come in Delhi," the chief justice asked, to which police replied that report takes 15 days to come.

The police, however, said in this case the post-mortem report will come in couple of days as it was sent to CFSL CBI so that report can come faster.

"Post-mortem report is still awaited, so I can't comment on the nature of injuries or how he (Nido) died. There is special investigation team constituted to deal with the case," Krishnan told the court.

The police also told the court that it has been taking steps to protect people from the northeast.

The court took suo moto cognisance, calling it a "serious issue" and sought a report from the central, Delhi governments and the police to apprise it of the steps taken in the issue.

Nido Tania, son of Arunachal Pradesh Congress legislator Nido Pavitra, was allegedly beaten up mercilessly by shopkeepers Jan 29 in South Delhi's Lajpat Nagar market following a quarrel over his appearance and clothing. He died in a hospital the next day.
