Chapter 2: Mature Management
I must say that only one or hardly three percent of hospitals really understand the gravity of Mature Management, on the top of my surprise just one percent of this three percent actually implementing it in day to day routine.
It's a big strange to see someone starting a business without any sealed strategy?!
Let me tell you, any business survive..I repeat..just survive, when it's able to sell minimum 60% of their production.
In case of hospital, we can replace the word "production" with "bed occupancy".
Now let's do a self-assesment with below set of questions.
1. How many hospitals are aware of an actual "bed-life" for a normal multi-speciality hospital ?! It's actually Annual-84 but how many are knowing it and making the Business Forecasting Plan based on it?!
2. What's an AUTHENTIC ORGANOGRAM for any hospital and how does a hospital should plan it? Let me tell you, without an organogram, a hospital is like a body without hands & legs.
3. Reception Counter is the most important department of any hospital, even bigger than the IPD department. Are we really paying that much attention to this department. The one who meets the client before any other department, is almost ignored by it's owners. We celebrate Doctor's Day, Nurse's Day and it's really great, but do you know when to celebrate the Receptionist Day..hardly any reader can reply to this question and by the way it falls on the 3rd Wednesday of May month.
4. I've seen hundreds of hospitals with an appealing infrastructure and I honest-to-goodness appreciate those but there is a settled formula to decorate any hospital waiting area, lobby or entire premises and that formula called ICE PANACEA, but the difficulty is, how many hospital interior designers are knowing it?!
5. Now let's talk about staff-selection, an utmost item to ensure the REVENUE RESULTS. But the interviewers of many hospitals carrying penny knowledge of an effective interview. They don't even know, that Recruitment is nothing but adolescence face of Retention, which only happens when that staff recruits you as his/her boss for life time. And to fix this, one needs to select the E3 EMPLOYEES.
6. Finally there's one term being very familiar to any hospital, yes I'm talking about SOPs. But I barely see any significant training based implementation of SOP in any hospital. I did an exercise of checking 6 months duty-rota and never found any training calendar. Trust me dear hospital owners, a perfect SOP based training calendar saves you from Medico-Legal issues as well helps increment your business.
7. Now the Paramount of all above, do you have a well crafted and decently designed format of ANNUAL BUDGET, followed by Monthly Meeting Format?!
Friends, please note in your dearest diary, that MATURE MANAGEMENT is the chief-key of hospital growth and it doesn't end on above written 7 points. It's a series, any hospital must go around with, I believe.
