Oxygenerator!! The Phi Factory, Hyderabad has developed an oxygen generating kit under the code named Vayuputra. The kit is a simple packed-bed catalytic mirco-reactor capable of cleaving the oxygen molecules. Hydrogen peroxide (H202) is chosen as the primary candidate as it is widely available in the market. It is already being extensively used as a key component in sanitisers. It is also comparatively inexpensive. The reaction produces 24 litre of oxygen per one litre of commercial grade Hydrogen Peroxide. The device is portable and has a potential to serve two people with 10 ltr/ min of oxygen. The primary offering comes at Rs 2,500 along with a consumable liquid of 20 litres. This is sufficient enough to save a person for 12 hours with medical grade oxygen. Once exhausted, the consumables can be replaced with refill cans of 20 ltr that comes at Rs 1,500. They are ready to give the designs who want to make the kits available in large numbers. Great. Father makes a cute fully-functional mini-auto rickshaw for his kids!! Arun Kumar Purushothaman, Idukki, Kerala, a staff nurse by profession turns into part-time mechanical engineer when he builds his children fully functional, miniature auto rickshaw “Sundari”. He constructed the vehicle out of recycled bits and throw-away objects adding in a motor and a battery. The front of the auto is made out of an old TV dish, after being cut and molded in the shape of the frame. An old stove was also put to use by beating it into shape to make the chassis for the vehicle. The tires of the vehicle are made from old shoe soles. The vehicle also features a mobile charger, a pen drive, and memory card slot with speakers at the back. It even has a kicker to incorporate the feel of a 'real auto.' A tiny meter box also flashes lights where a 'fare' is usually displayed. Few gave him “the father of the year” award already. Join with me to congratulate Arun and wish him all success.

Little genius - 12-year-old data scientist!! Siddharth Srivastav Pilli, a student of class 7, Sri Chaitanya School, Hydearabad has been hired for the position of Data Scientist by software company Montaigne Smart Business Solutions. While Monday to Wednesday he goes to the office, Thursday to Saturday he attends classes in his school. Siddharth’s father, Rajkumar Pilli, taught the curious mind how to create a computer program. Looking at his rising curiosity towards programming, he helped him understand more and more complex techniques. His parents are encouraging him to do what he wants knowing well that what he does is giving back to the society. It’s incredible to see so many people achieving big at a very young age. Bio-organic fast charge EV Batteries using crop residue!! Nexus Power, Bhubaneswar developed rechargeable, bio-organic and bio-degradable batteries for electric two and three-wheeler from crop residue. They procure the unburnt crop remains and manufacture rechargeable energy-storing cells from this by applying a unique extraction and filtration process. Multiple cells go into making the IoT and AI-based sensor-enabled battery pack used in EVs. All the elements of the cell - the cathode, anode, and electrolyte, are built with nanodot proteins derived from crop residue. The batteries offer 8x–10x faster charging and the current tests show a significant improvement in the energy density and driving range. The patented technology will eradicate 7 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by the next century. In addition to preventing burning of crop residue, procurement of crop waste helps farmers earn an additional income. The prototype is currently undergoing trials with EV manufacturers. Innovative eco-friendly stove!! University of Petroleum and Energy Studies has developed multi-fuel stove “Neelam” that promotes green energy. It is more efficient and emits less carbon monoxide than an average stove. It is capable of operating on conventional and renewable energy sources available in rural and urban areas. It operates in four modes - pure biomass, pure biogas, pure LPG, and a combination mode. The stoves are designed with the provision of producing heat out of the solid fuels within the lower combustion chamber while the upper combustion chamber is equipped with a removable hybrid burner kit to supply gaseous fuels to a cooking vessel. The hybrid burner kit control the flow of gaseous fuels to the upper combustion chamber and subsequently to the cooking vessel. The stove reduces the amount of carbon monoxide produced during combustion by 85% to 100%. Environment-friendly substitute for food packaging from raw cucumber waste – cool packaging!! Researchers at IIT Kharagpur have developed cellulose nano-crystals from cucumber peels raising the possibility to create an environment-friendly substitute for food packaging materials. Cellulose nano-crystals derived from cucumber peels possess modifiable properties resulting in better biodegradability and bio-compatibility. Cucumber peels possessed greater cellulose content (18.22 percent) than other peel wastes, making it more viable. The researchers are optimistic about its scope in various fields like paper making, coating additives, bio- composites, optically transparent films. Automatic eco-friendly agri sprayer!! 15 year old Class 10 student Neha Bhatt, Puttur, Karnataka developed an automatic agri sprayer capable of reducing human intervention, helping betel nut farmers save money. The machine consists of an Arduino-based level detector, pressure release valve and overcharge protector. Mounted on a single-wheel cart, the automatic sprayer comprises a gearbox, DC motor, lithium-ion batteries, suction and delivery hose, two gator pumps, junction box, connector, barrel, accelerator, and other components. When the pumps exert pressure, the suction hose sucks and pushes it to the junction box, containing three outlets. The pressure release valve enables the effortless diffusion of the Bordo mixture.
