He was my Grand Father and in his loving memory I have made this site, I was fortunate to spend my early childhood under his umbrella. He was war veteran of the second Great War and had been awarded ~ Order of British India with the title of 'Bahadur' ~ --- for the bravery shown in war and service to the nation. In addition he was awarded ‘Mentioned in Dispatches’ for war service in North Africa and then in Italy. His service in Italy was also commended by an award of Distinguished Service Medal in Italy. As a child I listened to war stories from my grandfather. He narrated how war was fought in different parts of the world. I cannot forget the incident that while he in Africa a bomb blasted so near to him that he could not hear properly. As a child I probably must have noded my head as if I have understood, the realization of what would have actually happened in this war incident came to me much later in life. A great man, caring, honest, and humble. When I was child, I thought war is a normal everyday activity, not until when I was 15, I found his diary which had record of his entire war service. I realized what courage and bravery my grandfather had and how he has fought for his country and served in other countries too. And this prompted me to learn more about this simple, kind, modest yet very brave man. After his retirement from the army, he took care of agriculture land and helped the people in our native village. He was a great man; I miss him dearly, so I have decided to bring his story forward to share and to pay tribute to his bravery....
I started to do some research and find persons with similar contribution dedication. My maternal Grandfather was another such great man. Maj Magan Singh Rathore , he served state force Jodhpur sardar infantry which was raised in 1922 during world war-II. It was in Eritrea and then it was part of American 5th army . Maj Magan Singh Rathore ‘mentioned in dispatches’ in World War –II for 18 times. It is unique distinction. Book by Brigadier Ducan from UK Seceratry to State of Marwar in Rajasthan India during british raj in india, written on this War has special mention of his bravery and contribution in winning this war. I am proud of my ancestor, and am sure the word has a lot of persons like me whose forefather have contributed to the Great Wars (WW-I,WW- II and other wars fought to save humanity). We all with similar background would have the same feeling and thus part of the same family. Some of us may not be getting along well in the world and it is our moral obligation to offer a hand of support to them. I have embarked on the journey to offer help and would do my best. So if share the same feelings we could be working together.
