Prashant Pradhan Architects

Prashant Pradhan Architects Prashant Pradhan Architects (PPA) is a young, dynamic firm based out of Gangtok.

PPA is a firm based out of Gangtok focused on delivering the highest quality multidisciplinary design. We do not distinguish between urban, architecture, interior and approach each discipline as being seamlessly interrelated. Our design philosophy is rooted in the context therefore; issues of identity and culture get as much attention as architecture in the contemporary context. Our projects are v

aried in scale ranging from a 1.2km stretch walkway with allied facilities in the heart of the town, public in nature like vendors markets currently being constructed in 2 major towns in Sikkim to small residential units and the design of individual furniture pieces. We are currently working on a number of hospitality projects since Tourism is the most important industry of the region. Prashant Pradhan (MCA, MIIA) the principal is a graduate from CEPT and has done his post graduation from the Berlage Institute, Netherlands. He has spent time working in offices in Amsterdam and New York and has also taught at the City University in NYC.

Farewell Hishay

Hishay joined the practice in 2013. I remember her first as a very quiet and shy young woman—someone who kept to herself, spoke little, and observed more than she expressed. There was a certain gentleness about her presence, an unassuming calm that never disrupted but instead quietly steadied the atmosphere of the office. She had a way of being that was both demure and assured, never seeking attention yet never diminishing her role within the collective....

Vivanta at Pakyong - the architecture
Paddy field cultivation has been prevalent in Sikkim since the advent of farming the steep slopes in the verdant landscape. Much of the rural countryside in Sikkim is comprised of terraces where rice is grown and harvested twice annually and set amidst this is the site for Vivanta at Pakyong. The project is rooted in this topographical adaptation that forms the conceptual framework for the design of the building.
Cascading Courtyards as Organisational Principle - Local context
The large structure is carefully organised around cascading courtyards and open spaces around which all the rooms and the spa are located. These courtyards at different levels follow the contextual contours of the topography thereby adapting the building to the context instead of flattening the entire slope to build the building.
The corridors around the periphery of the courtyard create uninterrupted vistas between the different levels of the building. These in turn open out into landscaped gardens that engage directly with the guests in the form of gardens and terraces. Here, one can sit amongst the tall plants or be surrounded by them as one walks to their room. This contextual connection to the local environment is derived directly from the terraced paddy fields of the rural countryside where farmers and their families working in different parts of the land are able to maintain a visual connection between each other.

Interior views of Nebali - the fusion cafe. An amalgamation of Newari and Balinese sensibilities evolved out of the ancestral roots of the client and the architect - both being Newars and out love and fascination for Balinese culture and architecture. This led to the genesis of the idea of Ne- Bali. The logo was designed by The super talented Pankaj Thapa.
