Unakoti is famous for the innumerous rock carvings of various Gods and Goddesses from Hindu Mythology. Legend has it that Lord Shiva , along with other Gods and Goddesses (1 crore in total) had set out for the holy city of Kashi (Varanasi) and had rested for the night in Unakoti. Shiva asked all the Gods to wake up before sunrise the next day however he became furious when nobody except him had woken up before sunrise. The Yumthang Valley is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the beautiful and peaceful state of Sikkim. Blessed with sky hugging peaks, calmly flowing streams and gentle trekking paths as well, the valley offers to be an ideal getaway into the heart of the mighty Himalayas.
The changing seasons also causes the valley to change it's appearance dramatically.
In the Summer, the snow melts making it an ideal trekking destination, in Autumn the valley gets covered by numerous colourful and beautiful Orchids (which is also the best time to visit this place!) and in the winter a thick blanket of snow covers the region and this beautiful cycle repeats itself every year.
