📍Geoeye-1, part of the WorldView satellite constellation, was launched on September 6, 2008. It is owned and operated by Maxar.

📍A low orbit, sun-synchronous satellite, initially flying at a height of 681 km above the earth. Later in 2013, it was raised to 770 km.

📍GeoEye-1 was designed to carry out large projects, as it covers 3,50,000 sq. km. with a revisit time of fewer than three days at any location on earth depending upon the altitude and inclination of the point.

📍It can provide 0.41m of panchromatic (Black and White) and 1.86m of a multispectral image (colour). It can also provide pan-sharpened images.

📍A polar-orbiting satellite, GeoEye-1 will make 12 to 13 orbits per day while flying at an altitude of 681 kilometres with an orbital velocity of about 7.5 km/sec or 17,000 mi/hr.

Applications of GeoEye-1 are not limited to any specific industries:
defence,
👉Disaster response
👉Oil and gas exploration
👉Air and marine transportation
👉Mapping of remote regions
👉Location-based services
👉Insurance and risk management
👉Agricultural crop management and more.

GRUS, a satellite constellation developed by Axelspace made its first launch back in 2018 with GRUS-1A and in the coming years, they launched more.

But how? GRUS is different from other satellites in its segments.

GRUS is a lightweight satellite constellation where each satellite weighs less than 100kg. Equipped with a High-performance optical sensor capable of taking images at 2.5m ground resolution with a 50 km swath.

One of the significant qualities of GRUS is that it covers the entire globe with its constellation and updates its database of images on a daily basis. It can revisit a desired location every day, which is effective in sectors like agriculture, forestry, fishery, etc.

The drone market has been picking up pace in South Asian countries and India is a major player in that considering its size and population of India. The Indian market share is expected to grow even further.

So what is driving the drone market?

Well, the main reason for the following would be the growing awareness and usefulness of drones in every sector, be it the monitoring activities by the defense & security forces, entertainment industries, drone-based GIS mapping, or drone-based agricultural solutions such as water and pesticide spraying, etc.

In fact, the agricultural sector is largely responsible for the growth of the drone market in India as it provides better options in comparison to the traditional approach of gathering data by aerial aircraft or by satellite imagery. Industry professionals appreciate the fact that drones are much more economical than any other solutions present out there.

Through its various solutions, SATPALDA provides help to a wide range of sectors.

Some widely used applications of drones in the agricultural sector:

👉Drone data is used in agriculture to identify crop health, soil conditions, and crop yields.
👉Drone data can be used to generate the NDVI index, which measures the amount of chlorophyll in vegetation and can be used to assess crop health.

A Tokyo-based startup showcases a “coding free” GIS platform.

This platform will revolutionize the way people create 3D maps. It enables them to easily create and publish 3D models with layered information on a Web browser. The project is named Re: Earth developed by Eukarya. It requires no downloading, and all the tools for overlaying information will also be readily available as plug-ins.

Apart from that, it will be an “open source” platform that will allow engineers to develop their own services and products.

Land subsidence, a term that no longer requires explanation after the Joshimath incident. Several authorities and government organizations were put in charge of examining the situation in Joshimath, such as the NRSC, IIRS, and ISRO.

In the initial report of ISRO, Uttarakhand’s town and gateway to Badrinath sank almost 8.9cm between the period of April and November 2022. According to the article published in Mint, some towns in India are also facing a similar threat, such as West Bengal’s Darjeeling.

But ever wonder how scientists and researchers find out about land subsidence?

Well, the answer is by using high-resolution satellite imagery and developing land subsidence mapping. Spatial analysis of urban & rural areas can map out the areas under threat using InSAR and SAR.

InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) is a technique for mapping ground deformation using radar images of the Earth's surface that are collected from orbiting satellites.

The metrics that are measured during geospatial analysis are:
👉Max Deformation Rate
👉Deformation Time Series
👉Thermal Expansion

SATPALDA provides detailed mapping and analysis of subsidence-affected areas using techniques like SAR and InSAR.

📍WorldView-1 was designed by Ball Aerospace and operated by DigitalGlobe to meet the growing commercial demand for satellite imagery.

📍Successor to quick bird 2 which was launched in 2001, WV-1 launched in 2007 and outlasted its operational period of 2015.

📍WV-1 helped the military, defense forces, and environmental authorities with its ability to produce high-resolution satellite imagery.

📍Equipped with a sensor that can produce 50cm (panchromatic) shots of the earth's surface.

📍A lower sun-synchronous orbit, with a revisit time of 1.5 days makes it best for monitoring activities.

Facts about Drones:
📍In 1935, Reginald was the first one who succeeded in creating the first-ever civilian drone.

📍The first drones were actually called "unmanned aerial vehicles" (UAVs) and were primarily used for military purposes.

📍Axis vidius is the smallest drone ever made with dimensions of just 4.3 x 4.3 x 2.5 cm weighing 249gm.

📍The world's largest drone is the Global Hawk, built by Northrop Grumman. It has a wingspan of 131 feet and can fly for up to 30 hours at a time.

📍Drones also proved to be life-saving tools in many scenarios by delivering medicine in remote locations.

📍Drones have been used in various industries, including agriculture, filmmaking, and search and rescue operations.
