It is known to all, the way market-leading online platforms like Google, Facebook, Amazon, and Apple have achieved market power and are engaging in practices that have reduced competition, stifled innovation and tried to take advantage of their market dominance. These companies have become too powerful to be controlled. They have ramped up their lobbying spending in the US over the past decade to counter any govt. action and influence anti-trust scrutiny. Data obtained from the Centre for Responsive Politics shows these four tech majors spent $54.5 million on lobbying over the past decade. Lobbying is formal and the amount spent on lobbying in the United States is traceable. Lobbyists try to gain a degree of influence on the legislative process in the hope of legislation more favorable to their business being passed. And lobbying occurs at all levels from local government to presidential elections there.

A society where a large proportion of the adult population join the labor force and almost all who do join the labor force are fruitfully employed, is a society that is largely healthy and free of economic vulnerability. Such a society automatically motivates households to spend more to improve their quality of life. In doing so, households propel economic growth and more employment.

A society that cannot provide gainful employment to those who seek it, on the other hand, is vulnerable. An increase in unemployment reduces aggregate spending power, slows down the economy, and most importantly, it increases the vulnerability of households to deal with economic shocks.

There are a few obvious observations. ATF sales reduced to 8%, Diesel reduced to 47%, Petrol sales reduced to 39%, and Bitumen reduced to 37%. But, almost no reduction in LPG Sales. Kudos to the distribution network of COVID Warriors!
