The Air Yeezy 2 helped Kanye West change sneaker culture, but Nike failed to capitalize.

In a radio interview at New York’s Hot 97, West mentioned, “Nike told me we can’t give you royalties because you’re not a professional athlete,” He also added,. “I told them, I go to the Garden and play one-on-NO-ONE. I’m a performance athlete.”

This is how Kanye left Nike and made the move to Adidas, which was in the middle of revamping the brand and about to relaunch its best-selling sneaker, the Stan Smith.
