On the 2026 International Day for Biological Diversity, the theme “Acting Locally for Global Impact” reminds us that meaningful environmental change begins at the community level.
At Mu Gamma Consultants, we believe that protecting biodiversity is deeply connected with how we manage water, sanitation, waste, chemicals, and natural resources. Through our work on river basin management, plastic and chemical pollution reduction, wastewater reuse, climate resilience, and sustainable WASH systems, we continue to support solutions that strengthen ecosystems while improving lives.
From local actions to global outcomes — every restored river, every reduced pollutant, every informed policy, and every empowered community contributes to a healthier planet. 🌎
Let us work together to build systems that protect both people and biodiversity for generations to come.

Transforming used water into a National Asset 💧

Mu Gamma Consultants is honoured to have been associated with a significant milestone in India's journey toward water security.

In collaboration with Namami Gange, GIZ India, the State Mission for Clean Ganga Uttar Pradesh, and the State Mission for Clean Ganga Uttarakhand, we have successfully supported the development and release of the Safe Reuse of Treated Water (SRTW) policies for two key states:
🔹 Uttarakhand: Released March 17, 2026
🔹 Uttar Pradesh: Released March 23, 2026

These aren’t just policies; they are blueprints for a Circular Water Economy. By rebranding Treated Used Water (TUW) as “Apna Jal", these frameworks transition wastewater from a "disposal problem" to a "valuable resource".

Key Pillars of the SRTW Policies:
*Groundwater Preservation: Drastically reducing dependence on fresh water.
*Safety First: Stringent standards for multi-sectoral reuse.
*Phased Implementation: A scalable roadmap for industrial, agricultural, and urban applications.

We are deeply grateful to our partners at the National Mission For Clean Ganga (NMCG) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH for their trust. Beyond these state policies, we are proud to have co-created the National Framework for SRTW (https://nmcg.nic.in/writereaddata/fileupload/32_SRTW%20Framework_Final_23_11_2021%20(1).pdf), the Compendium of Business Models (https://gyanganga.ai/admin/fileupload/Compendium%20of%20Buisness%20models%20(1).pdf), and the localised solution for SRTW in Panipat (https://nmcg.nic.in/writereaddata/fileupload/12_City%20SRTW%20_Solution%20Document%20Panipat.pdf).

Together, we are driving the future of sustainable water management.

Dr Girija Bharat and Dr Syamal Kumar Sarkar's latest article on water and climate resilience.

"Water must anchor climate action. Implementation must be swift, equitable, and technologically robust. Resilience should be measured not by infrastructure built, but by systems that continue to serve people when the next flood arrives, when the next drought lingers, and when the next climate shock tests the nation’s preparedness," write Dr Girija Bharat, Managing Director, Mu Gamma Consultants Pvt. Ltd, and Dr Syamal Kumar Sarkar, Senior Advisor, TERI, for The Hindu.

PFAS—often called “forever chemicals”—are increasingly being detected in India’s rivers, groundwater, sediments, food packaging, and even human blood. Despite their persistence and potential health risks, research and regulatory frameworks in India remain fragmented, which hinders effective management and response to the contamination caused by PFAS.

In their latest article, Dr Kriti Akansha and Avanti Roy Basu from Mu Gamma Consultants highlight why PFAS must become a national environmental priority—from systematic monitoring and stricter regulation to advanced treatment technologies and a comprehensive management framework.

As India’s industrial and urban systems expand, addressing emerging contaminants like PFAS is essential for protecting public health and ecosystems.

The Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi has supported the INOPOL project, which has conducted PFAS research.

💧 From Waste to Worth: The Impact of Safe Reuse of Treated Water (SRTW)

Across India, cities are increasingly recognizing that treated wastewater isn’t waste — it’s a resource.

MGC's experience reinforces the idea that every drop counts — and with the right systems, partnerships, and awareness, used-water can become a cornerstone of sustainable water security.
