Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently announced that India's Installed Power Generation capacity has reached 11.2 percent of the total installed Power Capacity which came as great news for Indian Green Buffs!
According to the latest data, the present installed capacity in India is 2, 12,829 Megawatt (MW) of which Renewable's contribute 26,920 MW or 11.2 percent. The Ministry has projected a capacity addition of about 29,800 MW from RE sources during 12th Plan period which would increase the contribution of renewable power in total installed capacity by 17 percent by the end of 12th Plan.
The Indian solar installations will likely hit 1.3 to 1.4 Gigawatt (GW) according to latest research report released by Mercom titled “India Solar Market Update”.
A total capacity of 18,551 MW from wind energy has already been established which is around 9 percent of the total installed power capacity in the country and the MNRE has set a target of generating 15,000 MW of wind power during the 12th Plan period.
RE sector has also created ample employment opportunities, in the latest figures released by the Indian Government, India created more than 50,000 new jobs directly in RE field in the last three years.

Maharashtra: Suzlon Energy Ltd has garnered US$ 647 million via a dollar bonds issue at a coupon of 4.97 percent, which is the first ever credit enhancement bond sale by a domestic firm. As per the CDR package, the debt-laden wind turbine maker will get a two-year moratorium on principal and term-debt interest payments, and also a 3 percent reduction on interest rates. The package also includes a six-month moratorium on working capital interest.

Maharashtra: The Singapore based, Morgan Stanley backed - Continuum Wind Energy has received a US$ 164 million loan for its Satara based 175MW Wind Power Project in Maharashtra. The lender's includes major banks like South Indian Bank. The Power plant is expected to feed the grid by end of this year and the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. has signed a PPA with Continuum Wind Energy to buy the power.

Madhya Pradesh: India's largest solar project developer, Welspun Energy recently announced that it has finalized funds worth US$160 million for 130 MW Solar PV project which is being developed in Mandsuar district of Madhya Pradesh. A Consortium led by Central Bank of India, will provide the funding for the Project. The Project will help power 660,000 average Indian homes and will reduce Carbon emissions by 229,550 tonnes.
The company has more than 300 MW of clean energy project in construction, of which 111 MW are operating and the rest are under construction. It aims to commission 1.75 GW of solar and wind projects over the next few years.

Raasthan: California based Miasolé, a thin film Solar PV Manfacturer has exported thin-film solar panels to a solar PV project in Rajasthan, India, with the support of a US$ 9 million direct loan from the Export-Import Bank of the United States. The Indian borrower, Sai Maithili Power Company Private Ltd., a single-purpose solar company formed by KSK Energy Ventures, used Miasolé's thin-film PV solar panels in the construction of an 11.6 MW (DC) solar PV project in Rajasthan.

Andhra Pradesh: SunBorne backed by General Catalyst Partners, Khosla Ventures and Wadhawan Holdings, has bid for setting up solar plants totaling 20 MW in Andhra Pradesh and will invest about US$ 32 – 36.5 million, with equity accounting 30 percent of it. The power produced by these multiple plants will be sold to Andhra Pradesh power utilities. A power purchase agreement to this is yet to be signed. The total installation will be 20 MW they would come in multiple locations and this would require about 100 acre of land.
The company may also look to take up another 100 MW through the EPC route later. It now has about 25 MW of assets in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Greenko Group is raising US$150 million from GIC Singapore, i.e. one of the world's largest sovereign wealth funds. Greenko, one of India's largest independent power producers in the renewable energy space, is raising money through its Mauritius arm to increase its operating capacity to 2,000 MW by 2018, double the 1,000 MW target for 2015. Greenko has also been an aggressive buyer of clean energy assets across the country, which included hydro power projects in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka for US$54 million.

Kerala: Kerala released its new Solar Draft Policy which will see the state install 500 MW of solar power by 2017. As per the New Solar Policy the State has identified the core goals which it plans to achieve:
• Increase the installed capacity of the solar sector in the state to 500 MW by 2017 and 1500 MW by 2030.
• Generating large direct and indirect employment opportunities in solar and allied industries.
• Define end users who can adapt solar in a big way.
• Creation of skilled and semi-skilled man power resources
Kerala recently fixed Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) to 3 percent of the total energy consumption and out of which 0.25 percent shall be from the solar sources alone, with annual escalation at 10 percent till the quantum from renewable reaches 10 percent of total purchase.
