Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently announced that India's Installed Power Generation capacity has reached 11.2 percent of the total installed Power Capacity which came as great news for Indian Green Buffs!
According to the latest data, the present installed capacity in India is 2, 12,829 Megawatt (MW) of which Renewable's contribute 26,920 MW or 11.2 percent. The Ministry has projected a capacity addition of about 29,800 MW from RE sources during 12th Plan period which would increase the contribution of renewable power in total installed capacity by 17 percent by the end of 12th Plan.
The Indian solar installations will likely hit 1.3 to 1.4 Gigawatt (GW) according to latest research report released by Mercom titled “India Solar Market Update”.
A total capacity of 18,551 MW from wind energy has already been established which is around 9 percent of the total installed power capacity in the country and the MNRE has set a target of generating 15,000 MW of wind power during the 12th Plan period.
RE sector has also created ample employment opportunities, in the latest figures released by the Indian Government, India created more than 50,000 new jobs directly in RE field in the last three years.
