Rest in Peace, Jane Goodall (1934 - 2025)

Today my heart feels heavy as I try to put into words the loss of Jane Goodall. The world has lost not only a scientist, but also a true light of compassion, wisdom, and love. Jane showed us that science can be gentle, that research can be filled with empathy, and that caring for our planet and its creatures is one of the greatest callings we have as human beings.

She taught us that every living being matters. From her years in the forests observing chimpanzees to the countless talks she gave inspiring young people, her work was always rooted in kindness and hope. She reminded us that we are not separate from nature but part of it, deeply connected to every tree, every animal, every breath of air.

What made her so special wasn’t just her groundbreaking discoveries, but the way she carried herself - soft-spoken yet strong, humble yet unshakably determined. She made us believe that one person truly can change the world, not through force or power, but through patience, care, and unwavering love.

Jane’s passing leaves an ache in the hearts of so many who looked up to her. But her spirit doesn’t fade. It lives on in every person who chooses compassion over cruelty, in every young person who decides to study nature because of her, in every small act of care for animals and the earth. Her legacy is alive in the forests she fought to protect, in the animals she devoted her life to understanding, and in the millions of lives she touched without even knowing it.

Though we grieve today, I feel immense gratitude too. Gratitude for her voice, her presence, her courage, her example. The world is better because Jane Goodall walked upon it. And though she has left this earth, the seeds of hope she planted will keep growing for generations to come.

Rest peacefully, Jane. Thank you for showing us the power of kindness. Thank you for reminding us to look into the eyes of another being and truly see them. Thank you for teaching us that change is always possible, and that hope is never lost.

We will carry your light forward. Always.

Tired of difficult headlines? Here’s some good news for animals from around the globe in July -

1.In Mexico, Whale and Dolphin Conservation celebrated a major step in ending cruel captivity: a unanimous ban on dolphin and marine mammal shows after years of advocacy and public pressure.
2.In Canada, Cruelty Free International welcomed the government’s final strategy to phase out vertebrate animal testing under environmental protection law.
3.In the United States, Mercy For Animals celebrated the introduction of the Pigs and Public Health Act, a federal bill to protect downed pigs and boost welfare in farms, transport, and slaughterhouses.
4.In South Africa, World Animal Protection welcomed new progress on the long-awaited Lion Prohibition Notice. This is a critical step towards banning the country’s cruel captive lion breeding industry.
These wins reflect the ongoing power of advocacy, legislation, and collaboration. Congrats to all involved!
