At present more than half of the Indian population is deprived of toilet facilities due to which they are left with no choice but to defecate in the open. This is the key reason why India carries among the highest infectious disease burdens in the world.Our government is working relentlessly towards building more toilets across the country. But sanitation infrastructure is one aspect of the problem. The real problem is management of the enormous amount of waste we produce every day. In urban cities only fraction of waste is treated and the remaining pollutes our surface and ground water resources. This has led to degradation of environment, human health and the economy to catastrophic levels.
The Bio Digester is an innovative technology that disposes human waste in an eco-friendly manner. These toilets use bacterial consortium that degrades night soil and produces colourless, odourless, inflammable bio gas and odourless fertile water.
This unique bacterium multiplies on its own in anaerobic conditions which is present in the Bio digester tank. These toilets installed with Bio digesters can function at any atmospheric temperature. The smell of night soil and the disease causing organisms in it along with the solid matter are eliminated. On dry weight basis 99% of the solid waste is reduced.
Bio-Digesters require no sewage-line connection and are independent of any conventional energy requirement. The gaseous effluent (methane) is either continuously let off into the atmosphere or can be collected to be used for various energy incentive activities like generating electricity, water and room heating.
